I created the figure in a 3D program... I need to invest in a digitizer tablet! What 3D app are you using to construct your figures? I've tried using online 3D figures, it can become a bit cumbersome. A good reference for 3D bits is this site. They have some cool figures. Sketch Fab's female head scan is cool. I was thinking of using it to model a dream landscape from Lovecraft's Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath. HPL describes a scene on an island overlooking the sea, up in the mountains with lava rivers flowing from the rock, where a God's face is carved in the stone. I wanted to do a sunset scene, with the cliffs, this Godly face etched into them, the distant sea visible, and molten rock flowing into the deeps. It'll be quite a challenge.

Lately I've been doing a bit of colorizing in GIMP -- converting black and white images to color. Quite a fun little hobby I've picked up. I only have a handful that I've done, which I recently put up on my site for grins and giggles. Here's one of them. You can see the others on my new B&W Meets Color page.

I use DAZ (free to download) to create figures and pose them. If you want other skins, clothes, etc you have to pay for them. It can get quite addictive creating different characters. :-)
GIMP is as good as Photoshop Elements, or even better, but I still use my old Photoshop Elements for digital painting because I am more familiar with it than with GIMP.
I also use Blender for 3D spaceships, or any other constructs.

I like your colouring of B&W photos/images. :-)

I added a background, added sunbeams but made it too light, so lost wing definition. I tried blur on the background so it looked like the fairy was moving, but not very good. So this is what I ended up with. I will leave it for a few days to see what else I can alter. djmills.files.wordpress.com/2020/06/oldforeste-cover.jpg

Are your wings on their own layers? If so, could you duplicate the layer, use transform or scale to change the size/shape a tad, then use transparency to fade them out to like only 10% or 15% or whatever looks good? It might simulate the appearance of movement, perhaps. Sounds like it'd be fun to try anyway! It's looking good to me.

Thanks, glad you like it. Yes, I do everything on its own layer, and save often. Then copy the file with another name and merge down different sections, or all sections into one layer to save as a .jpg. That way I still have the original file to add to later if needed. I could try your faded copy of wings suggestion to look like flapping/movement. I did try a fairy dust trail but it took away from the realism feel of the image. :-)

It looks like I've been locked out of creating new threads. Ok. Stings a bit after a being a contributor for many years. Maybe time to say farewell.

Probably a glitch. Have you sent a pb to Ted?

Gary, hadn't heard from you for a while and was wondering if you caught the virus. Glad you haven't. Also you could try using your garyweston login instead of unclegarf. And that login might let you create new threads. Also, hopefully, Ted can fix the problem as soon as he is aware of it.

Not had the virus. Probably wouldn't survive it if I caught it. I'm expecting a serious spike in about five weeks as U K tries to ease off the lock down. I only leave the house to buy food etc. I'm on a B A fine art course at the local Uni so I'm more interested in painting than writing these days. Due to start my second year in September but I'm only going in person if I'm sure it's safe to do so. Otherwise it'll be online lectures and painting etc at home which I have done for years anyway. Strange times indeed. After a loptap meltdown a year or so ago, I had to set up everything again and couldn't seem to get on the forum the old way so rejoined using my nickname I've been called for decades. I still can't see a new thread icon so dunno.

Gary, you are correct in something happening to the site because I found the instructions for Creating a New Thread which say
... By clicking on a board, you'll be taken to the thread listing page with all of the available threads to read and reply to.
On thread listing pages, column headings will be titled Subject, Created by, Replies, Views, and Last Post. In the top right corner above the Last Post column, you will see a button labeled "Create Thread".
If this button is not displayed, forum staff may have restricted regular members from creating new threads, or you aren't yet logged into your forum account as most forums restrict non-members from creating new threads. ...
I am logged in but can not see any button to create a new thread, either. So, maybe something has changed, or Ted may be doing some updates. Hope he sees this discussion and looks at it soon.

Perhaps it's a capacity issue. Dunno. Glad it isn't just me. Perhaps normal service will resume eventually.

Hi, Chris. I had probably just been musing with a glass of something at the time. As I endeavor to motivate my writing hand again, I was reflecting on some obscure novella I'd penned a few years ago wondering if it was worth resurrecting for an update and rewrite. The idea behind it was an interesting one and a pity to let it languish unloved and unread. Years on I've more writing experience under my belt to perhaps make more of the story. My post was to be, do we put these old chestnuts into the dungeons of our minds or should we shake them into, hopefully, a more appreciated offering?
