Back in September Walmart began offering Smashwords ebooks through the Kobo ebook system. I have no information if ebook sales at walmart are limited to the United States.
Has walmart helped increase your ebook income?

Interesting question, especially as I was not aware that Walmart had entered the game. Are the considered a distributor, then?

Kobo distributes ebooks to walmart. If Kobo is selected as distribution partner on your Dashboard then your ebooks should be available at Walmart.
No information if ebooks available at all walmart locations worldwide or only in the US at this time.

I'll have to look at that. I'm curious about the impact of a major, rather mammoth retailer would have on the market in general.

Don't know about Walmart but I was surprised that I had some sales from Kobo :-)

as usual, I am underwhelmed by new "smash outlets". Before I jumped ship to D2D I had a shed load of books, novellas and shorts on smash, some of which were selling ok and gathering plaudits on Amazon, (those were the days) it was just the same old same old smash retailers taking up my books. Smash, B and N, apple and Kobo. Having left a small bunch of freebies and the odd priced book with smash for old times sake, guess what? still Smash, B and N, apple and Kobo. For reasons I never understood, B and N readers like my Davron serial (not series. there's a difference) With D2D my beef is seeing actual sales but not knowing who the outlet was. These days I am more interested in painting than writing and will probably only do one book a year from now on. From the numbers, somebody somewhere is reading something I wrote. I find satisfaction in that.

These days I am more interested in painting than writing and will probably only do one book a year from now on. From the numbers, somebody somewhere is reading something I wrote. I find satisfaction in that. I'm with you on the painting, Gary. It's really dug its heels in me. Only been going at it a wee bit over a year, and still have so much to learn, it's overwhelming, but hoping I'll persevere and learn more of the tricks. I began another fantasy map painting for Gilbert M. Stack. He's already received this comment on the other one I did: I like the sound of that! As to my writings, if I put a dollar on them, they don't sell. If I make them free, they get frequent downloads. If I try to 'hook' readers by making this one or that one free, and putting prices on the others, they snatch the free biscuits and leave the others on the table. I've come to the conclusion its a lost cause for me. I'll still write, and I still may do a book of poetry at some point -- which reminds me, I have a couple new ones folks on here might get a kick or a jolly out of -- but I no longer (insofar as writing and publishing go) place any hope of seeing it 'take off', or anything like that. Since meeting Gil and Will, my author pen-pals, I've learned that a series works best (Gary - actually, you're a prime example of that yourself), and even better if it's a series set in a world that is popular with today's 'crowd' (IE sexy vampires and crap like that). Gil writes high fantasy based on ancient Rome, and his stuff does really well, especially in the UK - I think he just exceeded 2500 sales across the series (something like 5 or 6 volumes so far). I think that's fantastic for an indie author to do so well. Well, I just looked - it says 3000 sales now. Should you visit his site ( www.gilbertstack.com/), scroll down and you'll see the map I painted - I did a side-by-side for him to put on his site showing his sketch and my map. You'll also see his sales stats I just mentioned. So, long story short as they say, I'm not holding my breath that Wal-Mart is going to swoop in and suddenly my books will start selling. And I'm just not worried about it any longer. I've come to grips with it, and with painting as a filler for the void my writings' disappointment has left, I'm not unhappy about it, either. Nor am I envious of my friends' successes. I am happy to hear of your sales, Gary, and it tickles me to no end to correspond with Gil and hear how well the series is doing. I've read the first two, and reviewed them, they're quite good.

Chris. I take issue with you when you say you are a lost cause on the the writing front. You know my views on your work and I stand by those. However you have a spark of something promising deserving of nurturing. I say enjoy and embrace any negative feedback as they are the spur to learn from and improve. To all I say, don't write anything unless you have something to say. IT will tell you when it is ready. ALWAYS write for yourself. I write and paint for myself first and I have embarked on what will hopefully be my definitive version of this new painting based on this song. Enjoy.

I'm not quitting the writing racket, I have just realized it's going to take a long time. And no sales speaks for itself. I feel sometimes it's a lost cause because there are no sales and very little downloads of even the free offerings. I can't really say I'm a smash hit success when my Amazon royalties for a year wouldn't buy a pint, you know? I do write for myself, though. As I said, if I wanted to write in a popular genre, I could probably come up with something. But I like what I write, and will continue to develop it, and who knows, may develop a following like you have with Craggy. If I finish this next Ansen story, and then add another, I'll officially have a series. But they have to eventually develop a following or I'm just writing for the Universe.
