Me? Post about poetry? Are you sure it was me? I think I helped somebody fix their poetry formatting once - maybe that was it? If I posted about writing poetry I am seriously losing my marbles. I'm freaking out about writing a short story.

But, I did want to float the idea of other genres in the Anthology like poetry etc.

In a comment from Coker regarding anthologies: ....the definitions are squishy. If the producer of an anthology wanted to flag their book as a box set, that would be fine with me. Technically, box sets are anthologies, though I think most readers associate conventional anthologies as collections of shorter works or poetry, whereas most contemporary ebook readers associate box sets as bundles of multiple full-length books. Though I've seen many box sets of novellas too. Yes, for co-author metadata linkage, see this FAQ at Smashwords.

Let's see what yields we get from our Anthology, and after that we can begin putting in motion a Box Set of full length novels.

An interesting concept, Serbs. No actual box set needed for the anthology. Just string it all together and slap a cover on it. But I'd be interested in a box of bits of full length books. Let's get the anthology done first, then think about a box. To be fair, I can see that getting more of a readership than the anthology. PERCEIVED value for money!!! Somebody gets a box of books for a knocked down price, that's tempting. Just my spin.

I think a collection of short but complete stories is more attractive to readers, rather than a collection of samples. As for pricing a box set, anything above free will require bureaucratic and financial responsibility for the account holder (the publisher). I don't think we're there yet.

Hola SWFers: I have a confession. While I have written essays, I do not think I have ever written a short story. While I know what a short story is, I am researching short-story anthologies. Plus, I felt I needed a few at hand to review the various formats of a current short-story anthologies. Found this on SW (Free): www.smashwords.com/books/view/535633This collection includes a variety of short-stories, poems and a play/script. While I like the multi-author collection, the formatting needs several fixes and additions. Just some random thoughts. Keep writing.

Just more musings.
A short story is still .....
Micro Fiction -- 0 - 100 words
Flash Fiction -- 1,000 words or less.
Anecdote -- like a parable.
Parable -- succinct didactic story.
Fable -- succinct tale, more fantasy.
Fairy Tales -- length varies
Tale -- short form of storytelling.
Vignette -- Brevity is the key to an effective vignette.
Essay -- length varies.
eShort -- 12-150 pages usually part of a series.
Short Story -- word count from: 1,000 - 20,000 or 1,000 - 7,5000
Short Fiction -- 3,000 - 15,000 words

I think a length between 3K - 15K - 20K words is the sweet spot.

I agree, we need to make the anthology attractive on many levels. While I think we will strive for complete short stories, I don't think we should limit submissions from other forms like poetry......
