I have never felt that I can make the distinction between the 'magical' elements and the 'scientific' elements in science fiction. I find the aspects of alternative realities must 'make sense'; as in have it's own internal logic; and at the same time have a somewhat otherworldly quality to it.
My novel, although it does stray into the area of being slightly humorous at times, is also given to weirdly philosophical seriousness.
I cannot remember anything but a weird dream I had that set me on the road to create the characters (about three years ago), in this other reality inside the novel.
"Not Without My Cat" has become the prequel to three other novels that were already written before the super speedy pace of this one. Naturally editing must be done! I cannot say where the whole thing ends, because I have at least five stories after this one in the series. It will take some time. I am on the steepest learning curve I have ever been on.... and I'm looking forward to investing in the work of novel writing.
I did not choose this genre, it sort of chose me. I guess it is best fit. It isn't set in space; but because Time Travel is involved, things are set slightly in the future. This allows me the freedom to change a few things that I would like to see.... Clean phone boxes, and more sushi bars.
What about the cat? Well I am a fan of cats. One might say a 'Cat Person'. I love the way they are so opposite, and self contained. I am interested in the way they are depicted in fiction, and how we see them as powerful or mysterious, and suitable companions for magical characters. The cat in this story: Camille, is an accidental protagonist in a series of events that are pivotal to the story. She is a normal cat....in the sense that she only does what a cat does, and doesn't do something apparently un-catlike like talk or something. That is if you don't count the particle saturated strangeness that makes her jump from space to space through a dimension portal.
So have a taste of something fluffy round the edges. Recommended to sit back; enjoy with a nice cup of tea!
