Cocaine follows that career of a drug squad officer in the UK customs and Excise over a ten year period. It has no vampires, werewolves or serial killers, unless you include the drug barons and their organizations, which you probably should. There are also no super heroes. Just people doing their best to do their jobs. The story moves between the UK, Spain and Colombia, with real people involved in all three regions.
There is quite a lot of violence in this book, but it is not gratuitous violence. All of the violent scenes have been based on actual happenings in the real world of drugs in order to try and keep realism. Therefore the violence is in context with what actually happens or has already happened in the real world. Give it a read and let me know.
Are people doing their best enough to beat the problem of drugs or even contain it? Probably not from the way the world seems to be going. There is no happy ending I can see in real life so this book reflects that with its characters doing their level best to break even with what must surely be the dirtiest way of making money the world has ever seen.
Maybe these guys are the real super heroes after all.
