Just uploaded new book which passed the epub check but has issues in AutoVetters with too many consecutive paragraph returns. It says that no more than 5 or 6 in a row. Okay, I checked through whole document and made sure there were no more than two. And these are only before each new Chapter. After uploading the new version, email still comes back the same, 'too many consecutive paragraph returns. I did download the ePub reader so I could take a look at it as in the Kindle reader it is perfect. I could see on the ePub reader that there were blank pages before each new chapter. Sometimes just one, sometimes two. But the funny thing was that the chapters that didn't have any blank pages before them were formatted the same way as the ones with blank page or pages before them. I'm not sure what to try now. This is for entry into the Premium catalogue and since most of my sales lately have been through Apple, I'd like to get listed in the catalogue. Anyone have any ideas?

Are you creating your own epub or using the meatgrinder?

From a Word document. Sadly, you probably need to do the full nuclear method. I switched to just creating my own epubs with Vellum, but good epub software is kinda pricy.
You need to strip all the formatting...there's instructions in the Smashwords Guide.

Even two consecutive carage returns can be seen as a request for a new page. It's better to use a page break in your wordprocessor. Personally I've given up on using meatgrinder. Although it is better than the Kindle version. I produce my ebooks using MS Word. I use Word's tool for vertical alignment for my front matter rather than using carriage returns to space text vertically. Chapter headings use heading 1 style which is automatically followed by a non-indented 'normal paragraph which is automatically followed by an indented normal style. Details of this are at authorbookpromotion.blogspot.com/2020/04/paperback-and-ebook-formatting.htmlI produce two versions of my master document. One is for KDP and has Amazon links to other books in the back matter. The second version has links to my book website and a Smashwords IBSN. That's the one which goes to Smashwords. Both versions get sent to the calibre ebook management program and that converts them to EPUB2 format. Those documents become my source at Smashwords and Amazon KDP. I don't make ebooks available in PDF, Word, RTF or Text formats - why make things easier for the book pirates. In fact my books and ebooks contain a statement in the copyright page to say, "This book is not available as a PDF file, which is an unsatisfactory ebook format. If this ebook is in PDF format it is an illicit copy." Jennifer - Have you tried Atticus? Seems very capable and costs a LOT less than Vellum. I have a copy although I still format in MS Word and calibre.

I already own Vellum . Own. Not subscribe to. Atticus is a not terrible choice, but Vellum has already saved its cost in my time.

I suspect there are hidden codes, possibly left over from a previous draft. Where you see the blank pages, try pulling the text out including any returns and run it through a text editor where you can strip out the coding. Add the raw text back into the manuscript and recode.

It sounds like you've already put in quite a bit of effort to troubleshoot the issue with your ePub file. Since the problem seems to persist despite your adjustments, it might be worth considering a few additional steps: Check formatting consistency: Even if the chapters are formatted similarly, there might be subtle differences that trigger the AutoVetters. Make sure that all chapters have identical formatting settings, especially regarding paragraph spacing and indentation. Use specialized ePub editing software: While standard text editors can handle basic ePub formatting, dedicated ePub editing software might offer more advanced tools for troubleshooting and resolving issues. Moreover, if you want to download capcut mod apk then visit this website capcutproapk.org/. Programs like Sigil or Calibre could help you dig deeper into the formatting of your ePub file. Review the ePub guidelines: Sometimes, the AutoVetter's criteria might not align perfectly with industry standards or platform requirements. Review the guidelines provided by the platform you're aiming to publish on (such as Apple) to ensure your ePub file meets their specifications. Seek assistance from support: If you're still stuck, reaching out to the support team of the platform or service you're using to upload your eBook could provide valuable insights or assistance. They may have encountered similar issues before and could offer specific guidance tailored to your situation. Consider professional assistance: If all else fails, consider consulting with an eBook formatting specialist or hiring a professional formatter to review and potentially fix the formatting issues in your ePub file.
