American government officials are tracking the menstrual cycles of thousands of women. But, you know, it’s for their own good so don’t worry about it. 2muchcrap.com/?p=263

So much for doctor-patient confidentiality...

This is just one reason I don't have a mobile phone thingy. By the way, these will be compulsory before 2030. Big Brother and his damn sister are out to get you!

I can't help think that things could be a lot worse. There's a book I'm currently re-reading Cyber Seed Quadrilogy ($0.99) by Craig Falconer which may well be the future if this trend continues.

I have one, but barely use any apps. Essentially, the way people use mobile phones is like having prison tracking devices around their ankles. And then they complain when their data is used....

It is getting really creepy. I have found that all of this lack of privacy has changed my personality. I am much more quiet. I work hard not to post personal details in most places as well as keeping my mouth shut around my friends and family. I always find myself stopping short of saying something and then I shut up because I do not want to mention personal details. It changes relationships. All I want is a sense of privacy since there is nothing about my life that would interest the government.
I used to read a lot of science fiction and as I told my friends years ago, I don't have to read science fiction, I am living it.
I do admire science fiction writers who had the ability to see many possible futures of humankind.

Indeed we are living science fiction. But it is of our own making. We were lured in by 'free' and 'personalized.' Nothing is free on the interweb (not even this discussion list!). And you would have thought people would have been more aware with the baby monitor scares. But, it looks like listening devices like Alexa are very popular...

I was talking to my elderly mother at the kitchen table awhile ago, when this voice says, ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t get that.’ Mum freaked out. My iPad had turned Siri on. I hadn’t enabled it, and certainly hadn’t said, Hey Siri. So now I check settings after every IOS update!

Same thing with leaving laptops open and on. You never know when the cam will go on. I'm having a bit of a problem with skype: I need this technology for work but I don't like that they make a record of the conversations...

As soon as I purchase a laptop I cut a small length of double sided tape and stick over the camera. Then I set the camera to off. If it is remotely turned on they can't see anything. :-)

OMG Chelsfield, love the phrase "like having prison tracking devices." Can I use this phrase elsewhere?

When I am on a video call, they always say, hey, take off your sticker, we can't see you. :-)
