When I click the Contents icon on the bottom right of Sony for Reader for your epub version download it jumps to the bottom of the Table of Contents rather than to the top. This seems like a silly little problem, but I don't know how to create a hyperlink from the Sony for Reader icon to the actual top of the Table of Contents in the epub document.
The second problem is my zips don't form anymore. Previously, all that was needed was to save the Word file as Web Page, Filtered; right click on the html file and Send To Zip file; then drag the photos file onto the zip and they combine. Now, they won't combine. Nothing happens.
Also, in the mobi version on Smashwords when I click on a chapter from the Table of Contents then the first page of the chapter comes up, but not the title. Then if I go back a page, the same page stays there, but the chapter title comes up on top. This doesn't happen in the epub version.
Final questions: If I'd have spent $200 on getting someone recommended by Smashwords to format the book would these problems have been non-existent. My feelings are they would have still been there and cost much more to solve.

An epub file will look and behave differently on every device/program used to view it. If you use Firefox, download the add-on called epub reader 1.5.0.4 and look at the epub with that. Perhaps your Sony needs an update? Perhaps something went wrong during the Meatgrinder's creation process? Perhaps these are specific questions for Smashwords help and not the forum?
Can't help with zipping as I rarely use it. Why are you zipping a html file?
Are you using a Kindle device to view the mobi, or are you using Kindle for PC?
A formatter normally just applies appropriate styles to a document and creates a contents page by hyperlinking to relevant chapters. Applying styles and working with styles can be a headache when you first begin, but once acclimatized, it becomes second nature. PM me if you need a lesson in working with styles and I'll get back to you asap.

The zipping is for Amazon. They want it that way: jpeg and html text. Not as straightforward as Meatgrinder. Why the formation of a zip using a Windows 7 system would suddenly stop happening is beyond me.
I use Kindle for PC to view the Smashwords mobi file.
I've followed Word Styles and seem to be okay at that, but thanks for your offer to help.
Ah, Smashwords Help, never thought of that.

What a chore! Try sending your Word document directly to Calibre and using that to create an epub file. Submit the epub file to Amazon. No zipping required since an epub file is essentially a zipped HTML file which will include any graphics. Word limits the resolution of graphics to 199dpi, so if you want higher resolution graphics, use the Calibre editor to add the hi-res graphics and edit the filename in the HTML.

NotJohn on Amazon Community said one could send a Word manuscript directly to Amazon so I did that and it worked, sort of, well enough.
After a small edit with Smashwords wanted most carriage returns removed so I did that, moving further towards Styles, and they accepted it.
All is well as can be.
Thanks, everyone.
