About 20 yrs ago I sold 2 paperback horror novels, one to Crown and one to Berkeley. They got decent reviews but didn't set any sales records. After that marginal success, I wrote half a dozen more novels in different genres. Now I'm selling the unsold novels as ebooks. Random House is releasing the original Crown novel as an ebook in a month or two. I currently have 4 ebooks with Premium status, three at $2.99 and the most recent one free. I'm looking for marketing advice. (I retired 20 years ago from 3M as a Marketing Director but not much of that translates to this new market) I have a small number of Facebook contacts who I keep advised and I have an online business wherein I include a flyer in about 400 packages per month (see I'm hoping the freebie attracts readers but only about 300 have downloaded it on Smashwords in the first two weeks. I feel that my efforts are scattered. Let's assume that the books are good reads, I'd be thankful for any critique/suggestions from this forum. Bob Kline

300 downloads from Smashwords in the first two weeks is about average from my experience. It all depends upon your genre as to how many downloads you receive. A great start for advice on marketing is Mark's marketing guide, www.smashwords.com/books/view/305. I post 'stuff' on my Wordpress blog, and have images of my works on the right side. I get anywhere from 30-90 people a day visiting it. Not high traffic, but steady. Here is the link to my site if you want to see how I've laid it out, punzhupuzzles.wordpress.com/. I'm also on Twitter and Facebook, and visit them when I have time. I don't spend hours on either social networking site as I'm always working on another book or two. It took me about 4 months of marketing before sales started to roll. There were dribs and drabs of sales, but nothing steady. Two years later and B&N is the best sales outlet for my works. If you haven't already done so, upload your ebooks to Amazon's KDP Kindle system. Amazon has different formatting than Smashwords, so be sure to read their formatting guide.
