I was uploading my book to SM and ( aside from needing an ISBN) it says the cover is too small. I uploaded the cover successfully to Kindle publishing today. It is visible. Obviously different requirements for Smashwords. So just need confirmation that I will need a graphic designer to change it to the Smashwords requirements? I dont have the software myself.

Yes, cover sizes were changed last year to meet Apple's requirements. Please read the Style Guide for information on changing image sizes and no, you don't need a graphic designer to change the size.
Cover images must be at least 1,400 pixels wide.

Thanks for the info. Apple, eh! I can't do it myself. It seems a simple thing to do but if you dont have the software that allows you to set the two different dimensions, or else the know how to do it in another way, you are stuck. It shouldn't cost much just to change that.

You can use any drawing program or download a free drawing/photo editing program to change the size. All drawing/photo editing programs come with help files that will show you how to do it yourself. You can download LibreOffice, a free Microsoft Office replacement, which contains a drawing component. Import your cover to the drawing program, resize it, then export it in jpg format. Get LibreOffice here.... www.libreoffice.org/download

Thanks for the feedback on the free stuff. Much appreciated. Too late for now. Will use for next book! I just wanted to get it done and up. So paid someone. $29. At least its up there now, being reviewed. Now I am going to look around the forum for an answer to how long that process might take.

Sandyocean: Photoscape is a free download and very easy to use, a lot easier than Gimp. Ted: Now I know what the Exalt/Smite means - thanks.
