I could not find the old thread on Amazon reviews that have disappeared, so I'm starting this new one. I just read an article, published in the LA Times on Nov 2nd, which adds some interesting new twists to the issue. You can read it here. pwne.ws/RN17MK or www.latimes.com/features/books/jacketcopy/la-et-jc-why-is-amazon-deleting-writers-reviews-of-other-authors-books-20121102,0,7028228.story if that first link didn't work. I've got a suggestion which might be a nice work around for the issues the article introduces. What would you guys think of a review template that included a set of boxes the reviewer must complete that promotes "a reviewer's full disclosure" e.g., financial interest, paid for the review, friend of the author, acquaintance, review-in-kind, etc. (or the opposite, where one checks they are none of these)?

Amazon is customer-focused, not supplier-focused. If customers demanded some kind of checklist ... There's so many theories out there, so many authors really hurting because of this heavy handed clean up of reviews that doesn't discriminate. Oops, yes it does, it leaves one star reviews that do violate TOS. I have lost so many reviews that sales are affected, and I don't even look at my author central page any more. I shall never review another book again because I am not allowed to do that. Not happy chappy.
