I'd like to know how often my SW and other marketing pages get visits. I have an idea how to determine page hits, but am not certain of it. I would be very appreciative if any programmers out there could let me know if this would work, or how I might refine it so it will work.

The concept is basically to embed a picture on my SW page that is derived from a non-SW URL. That non-SW URL would be linked to an SEO analytics counter so I could see from that counter how many hits the pic got.
Note: From what I've seen when I copy and paste from SW, this might not work as SW seems to attach its own code. Am I correct on that point? Yes or no, could this approach work for non-SW pages?

I don't think Smashwords techies would go along with your idea, ahpellet, for the reason you gave; Smashword has its own coding.
Page hit counters are readily available for most web site coding; php for example. Ideally you want to install one that doesn't display results on web page but only to the admin. You also want a page hit counter that excludes search engine bots or other bots in its tally.
I use Wordpress as my blog host. It tracks visitors and, like all blogs, what they do.
