Hi there. I've checked my Smashwords distribution to include publishing to Kindle (it strongly recommends that you DON'T uncheck this option), but I've also published direct on Amazon via KDP. The KDP version is now showing in the Kindle store, but the Smashwords version is yet to be shipped. Am I risking having two versions on Amazon? If so, should I unpublish one, and from where - Smashwords or KDP? Thank you for your help. Paul

I don't think that you are risking anything. If I recall correctly... Your book has to sell 1000 copies before you can reuest that Smashwords ship it to Amazon. For that reason, I published mine directly on Amazon a couple of months ago and have never seen any duplicates.

Thanks Anita. Much appreciated. I wasn't aware of the 1,000 rule.

When your book sells enough copies on SW to be shipped to Amazon, you probably will end up with two versions published because they will have different ISBN's.
If you are already published on Amazon through another publisher, I would check the "opt out" box for Amazon on the SW Channel Manager page.
Later, if when you have sold enough for SW to ship to Amazon, you can then decide which publisher you want to use to distribute to Amazon. You could keep using KDP or switch to SW at that point.
BTW - according to the SW "Distribution" page, a book can go to Amazon after it earns $1000 at SW, not 1000 copies. (http://www.smashwords.com/distribution) scroll down to "Status of Amazon"

Thanks for the clarification, Nathaniel! I knew it had something to do with 1000, but for whatever reason, I was thinking in terms of copies. Either way, it would have been a long time before any one of my titles hit 1000 (dollars or copies) on Smashwords!
By the way, I did de-select the Amazon option on Smashwords only because I have heard/read that SW is looking for a way to auto-upload books to Amazon like they do for other retailers. Once that platform works, I figured that they (SW) would do it automatically and figured that it wouldn't be necessary.
