I see loads of erotic short stories as I search through SW, but I wonder if there is much of a market for non-erotic short stories. In short, do people buy them? What kind of sales activity can one expect?

Thanks for posting the link, Aristotle! That is a pretty good discussion thread. I used to read short stories when I was younger, but think that I am like the poster that likes to lose herself in a complete story. Books have always been an escape for me. I have an iPhone and do tend to download some of the Kindle freebies. I have noticed that James Patterson has been offering the first 25-29 chapters of a story for free. I thought that this was a great way to figure out if I liked the story enough to buy the rest. Instead, I noticed that his chapters are now suspiciously short...Some are the equivalent of about a page and a half. It became obvious when I read the first 20- however many chapters of "Now You See Her" in about an hour and a quarter.
