Somewhere on this forum (I think) I read that GoodReads.com is a good resource among others to use to help promote one's book. I went on there and set up an account and did the "book's I've read" and "plan to read" thing, but am failing to see how I can use the site to promote my own SW novel (btw, I'm "ahpellett" on GoodReads too). Any suggestions or observations? If you've used GoodReads, your opinions would be especially useful. Thanks in advance.

I've been on Goodreads for a while now and enjoy meeting people there.
Did you join the Author Program and do you have an Author Dashboard? If not, join the Author Program and add your books on your Author Dashboard.

No book cover is showing up but at least it's online there now (no book cover for some reason ... I used an ASIN). You mention using GoodReads to meet people. Do you do this via Groups or some other way? That's really the crux of my original question. (Hope these questions aren't out of line. I realize the SWforum isn't a forum for GoodReads).

I manually add my books, but using the ASIN number should display your work in a day or two after Amazon links to Goodreads with the data.
I've joined author groups and groups pertaining to the genre in which I write. I'm not sure how much sales there are, as Goodreads leans highly towards kindle users despite Goodreads tussle of late with Amazon, but I've met many interesting people.
