I am getting close (ok closer) to publishing my ebook and I have a few hyperlinks in the ebook to pdf files of large tables on my website. I'm using word 2011 and there is a bug either in word or Safari that when you click on hyperlinks to pdf files when they open they are all garbled. here is an article on the issue: discussions.apple.com/thread/2733631?start=0&tstart=0I don't think this will be an issue with the book but I just want to make sure before I proceed with processing it through the meatgrinder. Has anyone created an ebook using Word 2011 that had hyperlinks to pdf files? If so were there any issues? Cheers, Dave

I don't own a Mac but from reading the article you mention it would appear to be solvable: "Set PDFs to be read by Adobe Some people have had success by setting PDF files to be opened by Adobe applications instead of Apple's "Preview" or other applications. To do this, right-click a PDF file and get information on it. Then choose "Adobe Acrobat Pro" or "Adobe Reader" from the drop-down menu in the "Open With" section, and click the "Change All..." button." Change your PDF's so they open with "Adobe Reader", then upload them again to your website. Create a test MSWord file - make sure to do a Save-as to the MSWord 97-2003 doc format - containing the hyperlink to a changed PDF and upload that to your web site. Then use Safari to open the MSWord 97-2003 file and click on the PDF hyperlink within it. You should be able to read the PDF clearly if that method works. Remember to do a Save-as on your MSWord file before uploading to Smashwords. Save-as a MSWord 97-2003 doc file. I'm not sure if the meatgrinder plays nicely with the default MSWord 2011 document format.

Thanks for the information - that didn't help, the problem I believe is between Safari and Word 2011. I guess since ebooks aren't read in safari this shouldn't be an issue after the ebook goes through the meatgrinder.
Luckily I have been saving as a .doc because with the .docx you can't see "photos" embedded in the word document when in draft view.
Cheers,
Dave

I guess Microsoft doesn't play nice with Apple.

I can not find where to create a new post. I have a question regarding paragraph returns. Is it ok to have one hard return after an image/photo? Below is an example of what i am talking about Thanks

I use a Paragraph return after my photos and have never had a problem.
You can't start a new thread from within an existing thread. To create a new thread you have to start at the forum where you wish to post. For example, if you wanted to post a question in Editing you'd go to the Editing forum - which lists all the threads in that forum.
There you click on red color text "New Thread" hyperlink, which is found above the "Last Post" column on the right side of the page.

Thanks for your reply. I don't know why but I couldn't see the new thread, but I did find it.
Cheers,
Dave
