I was just checking my Amazon KDP reports and noticed that two purchases were refunded. I wasn't aware that they actually issued refunds. Does anyone know what type of circumstances would warrant a refund? Does it indicate a technical issue with the Kindle file? I mean, could I download an ebook and say that I was disappointed in the plot resolution and be issued a refund? Both refunded purchases were on Amazon UK.

According to the Amazon Help section: "How does the Kindle Store handle customer returns? Am I affected? The Kindle Store will provide refunds for up to 7 days for customers unsatisfied with their ebook purchases. Refunds will appear as a negative transaction on your Transaction Report, and will be deducted from your payment amount."
Anita, it looks like you'll have to contact Amazon or look on their forums for a more detailed explanation.

It gives the buyer plenty of time to read your book or in my case copy my pattern. I wish the time was shorter than 7 days. On the bright side, for every dishonest person there are 10 times as many honest people that will not take advantage of this.

Anita, it looks like you'll have to contact Amazon or look on their forums for a more detailed explanation. I probably will have to seek some additional clarification. I'm already curious to know if they crack down on people that repeatedly do this. I can handle it if someone doesn't like my writing style, but I'd like to think that they wouldn't be able to get away with defrauding independent authors.

I've seen reports of Amazon suspending accounts etc due to an excessive number of refunds, but I don't have details.
They're certainly not the only retailer to allow refunds. I occasionally see -1 in the Quantity column of my Smashwords reports, indicating a returned (and presumably refunded) book.

This is why I like Smashwords so much. With smashwords I can have 50% samples and free copies of the first book of a series. It makes it easier for readers to know what they are getting before buying the book. That reduces the honest refunds or dissatisfaction.
