Hi, I uploaded a version of my book. I then downloaded the epub, and then tried to validatie it through validator.w3.org/ I got the following error message: Sorry, I am unable to validate this document because its content type is application/epub+zip, which is not currently supported by this service.
The Content-Type header is sent by your web server (or web browser if you use the file upload interface) and depends on its configuration. Commonly, web servers will have a mapping of filename extensions (such as ".html") to MIMEContent-Type values (such as text/html).
That you received this message can mean that your server is not configured correctly, that your file does not have the correct filename extension, or that you are attempting to validate a file type that we do not support yet. In the latter case you should let us know that you need us to support that content type (please include all relevant details, including the URL to the standards document defining the content type) using the instructions on the Feedback Page. any idea what's up? thanks, Franco

I'm not sure where you got the epub+zip file. All my epub files from Smashwords are just epub files and not containers including a zip file and an epub file.
If you're trying to validate an epub file not originating at Smashwords then that may explain the problem you are having.

I uploaded a version of my book. I then downloaded the epub, and then tried to validatie it through validator.w3.org/The vaildator at validator.w3.org is for validating HTML, XHTML etc documents. It doesn't validate ePub files. There is a validator for ePub files at validator.idpf.org/I'm not sure where you got the epub+zip file. All my epub files from Smashwords are just epub files and not containers including a zip file and an epub file. ePub files have a MIME type of application/epub+zip. ePub files are actually zip files with a fixed set of files and folders inside, and a .epub extension. Thanks, Russell, didn't know that about the epub from Smashwords. Just to clarify - all ePub files are actually zip files with a fixed set of files and folders inside, and a .epub extension. It's not something unique to Smashwords. Try taking a sample ePub file from the ePub Samples project. Rename it so that it has a .zip instead of .epub extension, and you'll be able to open it just as you would a zip file. Russell
