Still frustrating regarding Zon.UK. I'm not the most patient bloke, but the hassle of getting a book perma free is not just a pain, it is costing me money. Sales of the series are improving nicely on Zon.com, so once the same goes for the other Amazon sites, I might be able to afford beer again. I still drink it, I just can't afford it.
So, there we have it. This thread was to follow my journey with Kindle Unlimited and being exclusive to ZON. Anyone following this from the start, hopefully appreciates it wasn't an easy decision to go into K U, put off for about a year. It was actually an easier decision to pull out, this after nine months, which I'm sure you'll agree was a fair crack of the whip.
So. As the thread powers on to the 5,000 reads, (only 4,600 mine) what are my conclusions? As a prolific, but average story teller, I think K U is a waste of time unless you are an A list writer. K U was full of good intentions, (maybe) but we all know where that road led to. You might be luckier, it's your choice.
The power of free. You know my opinions on this. In the right circumstances, it can be useful. Best for series or temporary spikes on solo books.
My advice for what it is worth, never be afraid to experiment and change things. If a book isn't selling, re-read the book to improve. Change the blurb, the price and or the cover. Try a D B S promo. Investigate audio books, script writing. Anything. A writer friend of mine doesn't do any good with his ebooks, but was picked up by an on-line Australian story / poetry mag and is a regular contributer. Look up short story magazines and competitions. Avoid the scammers. If in doubts, try putting their name in plus scam and google it. You would be amazed what comes up sometimes.
I've done my bit with this, but if you have anything to add based on your own experiences, post it to advise others. We are the Indie family and we help and support each other.
Above all, write as much as your time allows to the best of your ability.
