Naturally, Barnes and Noble were the last to show the four books. Nothing new there, then. But I was pleasantly surprised to see the five nice reviews from before still there. I really wasn't expecting that. Something to remember if you have go with something like this. I'll give things a week or so and if Zon hasn't price matched Craggy 1 free, I'll point this out to them. Good things could happen again when that happens.

I do love ironing. No, wait. I mean I do love irony. Having dragged 99% of my books kicking and screaming out of KU, and following zero pages read for two weeks, I wake to a blue spike of 112 pages read. I did the usual "tell us of a lower price" thing on Amazon so they will eventually price match craggy 1 to free by clicking and pasting the apple URL of that book in the allocated box. Had a read of J A konrath's blog, something I hadn't done in awhile. This is one of Zon's chosen few who get monster sales and they feel inclined to dump loads of bonuses on him to keep him and the top few positive about K U. I'm only jealous. But I found it interesting he mentions the annoying rigmarole of having to use the price matching routine to get Zon to put the odd book free. He says he's going to have a word with them about it. And good luck with that. on a positive note, I'm on 299 ratings / reviews on goodreads. Another milestone coming up.
I really must get my irony done!

And much to my amazement, on Barnes and Noble, bless 'em, FREE Craggy one already has a sales ranking. And that's with a really awful naff cover of the paperback which bears no resemblance to the covers of the ebook series. With my roar away success of selling A book in Estonia and a ranking on B and N, I can honestly say I'm living the Indie dream. Pass the red wine!

Amazon notified me to change from cheque to EFT for a couple of countries, countries which have 1 sale in 3 years when I checked. One of the countries Amazon told me to switch to EFT, Brazil, doesn't recognize CAD payments. According to Amazon I have to create a US or EU or UK bank account to get EFT for Brazil.
So to clarify, Amazon recognizes I live in Canada, recognizes my bank accounts are in Canada, sends me an email notice specifying I live in Canada, recognizes all the other countries which I have EFT are for Canada, yet still sends me a notice to switch to EFT for a country which I cannot establish an EFT for Canada. Go figure. I'm not going to create a bank account in the US or UK or EU just for 33 cents every 3 years. Sheesh.
What a way to run a business.

33 cents? I dream of 33 cents. But yes, this global soup can be a challenge. To get my pittance from createspace I have to completely redo my account etc. They still think I live in New Zealand. But the $ is for an animal charity so I'll sort it out. I'm trying to gently advise a lady wanting to become a writer that even getting stuff from head to computer is just a fraction of the job. As you say, Ted, 'taint the fun bit that drains us but the silly stuff at the edges. Being an Indie isn't a cop out from the 'proper' world of publishing but to have the guts to take it all on and do ten peoples jobs. I think that's where many Indies fall over. They have the ideas, commit the time and effort then hit the roadblocks to getting it out there. Always help an Indie.

I got the EFT/wire email, too. Followed the provided link for more information. According to help, Australia and EFT, not available. So I emailed Amazon, got a response telling me how to update payment details to EFT. Sigh. So I go in to profile, and voila, it IS available to Australia. Everywhere it seems except Brazil. It would help if some bright spark updated the help pages. Now waiting for Createspace to join the party. Then ACX.

Hit the 300 reviews / ratings on goodreads and it's a 5 star for Craggy #2 A nice way to start the morning. Actually doing well with reviews considering I'm selling almost nothing at the moment. Still waiting for Craggy #1 too be price matched free and I have pasted three U R L's on Zon from three sites where it is already free. Make sure you jump through those hoops if you are trying to get Zon to price match a freebie and make perma free. Just don't jump back and forth with having it free or paid as this annoys the great god Zon and he shall smite you down or put scorpions down your underpants or something. Once perma free, leave the damn thing alone! Julie is about to dive into my new book, so always an anxious time for me. At least her mom's a fan. It would be interesting to get mom's P O V but I know that won't happen. But I have often been told my stuff is young adult although I just write what comes in my head with no particular age group in mind. I think because I don't use strong language and sex is implied and not graphic, my stuff has an innocence lost on many writers. I'd be interested if you have had similar experience with your writing? I was told off for having a gay couple in the Craggy books but that says more about the reviewer than it does about me.

Ah!. Gotta love them freebies. Doing a five day promo on zon for "the amazing Abigail Jones" and away she goes. Stick a few $$$ for my hard graft and not a lot happens. Yeah, a few sales and a 5 star review. Great. Buys me a beer. To get through my beer consumption V book sales, I need to write about five books per month to keep me in the habit I've become accustomed to. That in itself isn't much of a challenge. Getting all those covers done and those blurbs I never quite got the hang of is something else. Sorry, I gotta go. Me wittering away when I have to write a book tonight if I can have a drink tomorrow.

Now the Craggy books are going wide, I seem to have one niggle with Barnes and Noble (no surprises there, then) with book one in the series. Although republished via D2D, on B and N Craggy #1 has the old paperback cover as they grab paperbacks from Zon to put in their shop window. To find the ebook, a reader has to look at the paperback and then find the ebook. Nuts. Nobody ever buys my paperbacks except me. The only way I can get this to work is to un-publish at createspace (C P) and republish updated cover and book to createspace via D2D. Yes, rather than using D2D I can do it myself but it can be a nightmare so it will be interesting to see how D2D handle it. Then hopefully, at least B and N will have the better cover on display eventually. My usual paranoia had me wondering if messing with the paperback version could impact on the ebook version. I just want the ebook as it is, reviews and all. I have asked Zon, C P and D2D to confirm this before I press the big button. I know the answers but best to be certain. If I do this, I'll let you know how it went with D2D. At least Julie seems to be enjoying new book. We might even come up with a decent cover between us. I intend putting the new book on booktrack. That'll learn 'em!

as long as you make changes to original interior and cover files, all good. Trouble looms if it's a new edition that has a different isbn.

I'll just let D2D sort it. If it turns out to be too much of a hassle I'll just unpublish the original paperback at createspace then just have the ebook.

I've been receiving EFT payments from Zon but I didn't actually provide an account initially and for some reason it let me set up my KDP profile without one so I assumed I'd receive a cheque or my royalties were just eaten. I'm listing for free on SW because I honestly don't want the money but I didn't have a lot of issue getting my pittance from zon once I had an account on file. I've been asked to redo the tax form since it's due to expire so I don't get slapped with 30% but I don't list on Amazon anymore. I'm still making "sales" on SW but I have no idea if anyone's reading this stuff since I'm never reviewed so it just sits out on the ether like a message in a bottle . I did have a nice review from someone here that ended up on my Goodreads. Other than tweeting/instagraming I can't justify spending money on this project because I'm not generating an income. Any non US people filling out tax forms atm for KDP?

I think I'm ok for the tax thing at the moment. Such a pain. I think there's too much free stuff and yes, I'm as guilty as anyone. I tend to put novella's and shorts free and first of series but why would anyone buy a book with so much free stuff out there? On Smash there's a stats thing for each book so you can see the number of views and downloads. On the dashboard daily sales you can see what is happening on the affiliates, which books and where.
