So I'm sitting in several airports in various parts of the country yesterday with mucho time on my hands and see more people reading ebooks than I ever have in my life. Suddenly I had a crazy idea ... why not hand out my ebook promo card to each of these people. Might I get a sale? Might it find me readers I never would otherwise? Might it be what I need to do to bet the title noticed? Might I be breaking some law about soliciting in airports (probably). My question ... Is this a pointless stupid idea? PS I had only two cards in my wallet and both were all bent up and sweaty. I passed on the grand idea. Still I wonder. Thoughts?

I think it is a great idea. I think it is amazing how many people are reading on these electronic gadgets. I just ordered some business cards for myself and I plan to go in person to as many local yarn stores as I can this summer (because I sell patterns). Person to person contact is always good. That is why authors have book signings. So get yourself some new cards!

I use business cards. They work.

What sort of information do you folks put on your cards? I am picturing a small card and how I could fit an image of the cover, a small blurb, links, reviews... Would you just mention "available on iTunes, Sony, Kobo, Nook, etc." and not detail links? Or one link to your Smashwords page or a website or facebook page? What have you found works best? I have been playing around with a flyer that friends and family can post on staff bulletin boards at work but sometimes I wish I also had a card to hand to someone. Thanks for the insight.

I use QR codes; for my blog, B&N, Apple, and Amazon. Almost anyone with a webcam enabled device - smartphones for example - can snap the code.

Can't talk about results as I've done little with them in terms of distribution, but this is what is on my card: * A picture of the book's cover * Title in bold - I also include the words A Novel by A.H. Pellett to make it clear what this card is about * A lengthy sentence that describes the book's genre, content and a little about the plot * available from most ebook retailers (I say this, and list four retailers) * my blog's URL (for more info) * a quote from the book that matches the mood of the text overall * Oh, this is all on a standard business card (in size) I am happy to help with design services. I also have access to wholesale pricing on print jobs - to keep costs down - and the printer does good work (IMHO).

Thanks guys! I love this forum! Everyone rocks! I am loving loving loving the QR code idea. I have to be honest and share that I needed to Google, "what is a QR code" - I know what they are but I didn't know that was what they are called and I certainly didn't know they were so widely available. (Came across a site suggesting you can print them on t-shirts, mugs, hats, etc., etc., etc.) Now I'm giddy! And ahpellet - I'm doing the googly eyes thing as well because my thoughts for inclusion on a teeny little card are similar to yours. I don't have a blog or website - Facebook is as far as I've gotten, but I have links there to everything... I wonder if just a brief statement ("Your copy is waiting for you at major eBook retailers"), and then a QR code on the back linking to my Facebook author page...in a pretty color, of course - or maybe a few codes on the back color coded to the retailer's color scheme... Looks like I have discovered the cause behind my procrastination in writing this weekend! P.S. Just noticed you are in Nashville, ahpellet - I have family in Oak Ridge.
