For some of the books I am creating the EPUB download that I drag into Adobe Reader shows up with the correct title (in the Adobe library) and others are "unknown". They look the exact same to me in the raw word documents. What am I doing wrong? I use a variety of title and chapter fonts and sizes but can't seem to find the issue. The word document reads fine in the navigation panel as well. I would expect the title to not be unknown. Help.

Hi, and welcome to our Smashwords forum.
What are you using to create the EPUB file?
Also, instead of "dragging into the Adobe Reader" try double clicking the epub icon, or mouse right click the epub file and select "Open With Adobe Reader" to automatically open the epub file.
See if that works. :-)

I have no issues actually reading the pub. It is the title in the library that is unknown. I use Converto and go from a word doc to EPUB. I actually load through the library add, and that does not make a difference. Two other items of note. 1. As I said, some word docs convert just fine and read as titles. Other do not. 2. I tried to change the title and the file name on a "working" one. I save as a word doc (with a new name) from the word doc and I label the file with a new title. But when it converts to the EBOOK it has the old name. I have no idea about that either.

I have never used Converto so can't offer any steps to check. Hopefully, someone else on this site may have an answer for you.

I use Calibre to convert documents to epub or whatever filetype. I have seen the 'Unknown' before, usually because I have't set the property field in the metadata. In this screen shot, it's the second button from the left. Also when you select Convert books (3rd button from the left) these metadata fields are available (ie Author, Author sort, title, publisher, etc)
