Now I do have a love hate relationship with Amazon. Basically, they hate me. That said, good as gold, the tiny bit I earn goes straight to my bank account. Smash and D2D do the paypal thing. Until I sort out the mobile issue, I can't get my greasy mitts on my stash. Heck! The minutes I slaved away to produce those brilliant books. Yet here I am, starving in my modest garret (all great artists die in garrets, whatever they are) desperately trying to get at my money so I can buy a stale crust to eat, so I can drag my weakened body up to the easel to finish that masterpiece. Should I survive the night, I'll let you know.

Hi, Julie. Yeah, did all that. Had a message to advise me what was needed but that didn't open up properly but still managed to transfer all the PP $ to my bank account. That pays for the new carpet cleaner I just bought so you could say I cleaned up with my modest book sales.

A few years ago, my mind was in a very strange, dark place and I was in some inescapable nightmare in which booze became a depressing refuge. Yeah, just a typical writer. During these surreal times, I also lost myself to writing, This sustained me more than anything. This was also an incredibly inventive and prolific period. Heck! some of it was even ok. Now I'm in a more contented place and well, I still drink more than I probably should, but nothing like I did. As I get into writing mode to put the brushes away for a couple of months, the plot direction more or less resolved, I wonder about the effort / reward balance for the new book. Is it even worth the bother for yet another book nobody will read? But then...from the obscure canyons, a five star rating for one of those alcohol fueled efforts. Space Storm. I can't even remember what it's about. The point to all this rambling is, I think, stick at it. So your book doesn't hit the best sellers list. No film producer is begging to use your book for a film. Somebody on the planet decided to chance this one and enjoyed it. That's reward enough and the encouragement needed to knuckle down on Drifta 2. I'll just get myself a drink....

That's reward enough and the encouragement needed to knuckle down on Drifta 2. I'll just get myself a drink.... "The Oasis, the biggest freighter ever built is on a journey across deepest space. Their mission is to deliver vital crop plants to a drought stricken world. A young stowaway seeking justice and vengeance finds love instead. Can they survive the deadly space storm and the enemy Latonian fighters? A mind-boggling adventure through time and space. Space opera for young adults and adults."Sounds like a good yarn, Gary! Perhaps the dregs of those bottles kicked up a little storm of their own....a storm of creativity. Long may such a storm quicken your mind to produce works of art and prose! Speaking of art, I never posted this. I deem it finished. I was going to put the obligatory flipped-over car in the background but couldn't seem to get it to work. I painted a few practice ones, and didn't care for them, and so didn't want to risk it. This was a request from a fella who loved the role playing game Gamma World. He gave me a picture from one of the manuals and I came up with this. <Edit> adding the pinterest board: www.headinjurytheater.com/images/dndgamma%201st%20useless%20character%201.jpg

Chris, I clicked on the first image, but nothing happened. I right clicked to open on a new page, but nothing happened, other than red writing telling me not to steal it. Sorry. I guess it is a painting of the lower image.

Now look here, Chris! If you insist on drawing a picture of me in my boozing days, at least give me the heads up before going public. Dunno what the blue thing is as it doesn't expand. I might call on you for the cover of Drifta 2. More on that in due course. Don't ya kinda feel a bit sorry for non creatives?

It's not 'shared' to the community, so has a 'hidden' status, which may be causing the issue. It's not that the folder is private, it's just that after it's shared to the community you can't add any more images unless you 'unshare' it. It's a quirk I don't care for about the site, but what can you do? imgur.com/a/vyCDPEj

I revised the path to a Pinterest post. Any better?

Exceptional art, Chris. Looking good. Ah, it worked that time then? Thanks, Gary. That was a tough one.

Really good. I love the little green alien. :-)
I also love your Bob Ross paintings. Flipping channels two nights ago, I found Bob Ross on an SBS channel. I sat and watched. Fascinating. Makes me want to get my oil paints out, but I need to finish a novel, then do 2 coves for short stories, and the novel cover first. :-)

Not sure if you are referring to me or Chris with the Bob Ross reference but I'm a bit of a Ross fan. He died in 1995 I think but the BBC are showcasing his work. Also on youtube. And what you say DJ about inspiring you to paint is the legacy and strength of Ross. He makes his big brush paintings seem so deceptively easy. He was a more traditional artist before he developed his big brush style. I've been painting for a few years and I still sometimes struggle and I'm never completely satisfied with my efforts. I'd say for anyone thinking of giving painting a go, forget water colours because they are unforgiving. Go for acrylics because they are much faster drying than oils. Then progress to oils, perhaps painting in oils over acrylics once dried off. Raid the charity shops for nice framed prints, paint over in gesso and do your own thing in acrylics and if that's going well, get some oil paints and over-paint the main features of your painting. Be reasonably serious of your painting embarkation because it can mount up in $$$ for materials. Check out the youtube painting tutorials. some are very good. Go to art galleries and take a really close up look at how the artist achieved that affect. Research the basics before parting with hard $$ and above all be patient and give yourself the time to progress and learn. This is the Bob Ross story. Enjoy.

Makes me want to get my oil paints out, but I need to finish a novel, then do 2 coves for short stories, and the novel cover first. :-) I understand about having to fulfill requirements before you can paint something for yourself. I finished that Gamma World mutant, but I promised the guy two paintings, so I'm now working on the second one. After that, I promised one of my proofreader buds that I'd paint a map for him. He only has these fairly simple sketches so I offered to do a really nice one for him. He's ecstatic about it, so I'll do that shorlty. Another proofreader/author penpal asked me to do a corroboration with him where we combine two of his characters with one of mine in a novel. Both of our characters are WW1 veterans so we decided to do a Great War backstory. He asked me to sketch a map of 'No Man's Land' where the action will take place, and also a floor-plan of a Gothic French church where some of the scenes will occur. That sounds like enough, but he also asked if I'd do 'a simple cover' for our co-operative. So, I now have these three things added to my to-do list. Lots to do , Dj! One day I'll have time to paint another Bob Ross -esque landscape. Can't wait.

Thanks, Gary, for the doco link of Bob Ross. Wonderful. Interesting that the doco showed where the series aired around the world. Australia never got to see the series originally. No wonder we are all watching it now on one of the SBS channels. :-)
Oh, I just ordered two of Bob Ross books via Book Depository. Looking forward to receiving them.
Chris, keep painting. Sounds like it will keep you busy for the rest of the year. :-)
