What if copyright law took authors rights seriously? Many groups claim to do so, but Professor Rebecca Giblin, one of the world’s leading experts on creator copyright, isn’t convinced. I've created a pdf transcript of the 37 minute long podcast.

The author/artist must learn copyright law in their own country. :-)
And then only sell the right that the publisher needs, such as Print only, or Print and eBook only, or even Print, eBook and Audio. Keep the rest for yourself. And negotiate more for each added right before signing anything, or else do the lot yourself as an Indie.
This is why Indie authors can make more money than traditional authors, sell off each individual right separately, not lumped together.
I love being an Indie author/publisher. :-)

I sometimes think publishers must live successful indy authors: ready-made fanbase, so no real effort required with marketing. And with the less savvy author, a publisher can scoop up the rights to everything-print, ebook etc, while the author is left with scraps for royalties.

www.bbc.co.uk/copyrightaware/what-isThe B B C (British Broadcasting Corporation) knows a bit about this stuff. A nice simple video clip with it. That said, back in the dark old days, (not just the grey ones we have today) my ebooks could be found on eleven PAGES of google search with sites showing my ebooks, paid or free. No amount of copyrighting would have stopped that. The simple B B C definition is, if I created it, it's mine and has copyright. end of.
