The contention of the book is that writers tend to be secretive about what they earn... I'll be happy to be less secretive when I can no longer tell the taxman that my hobby is costing me more than I earn.

I'll be happy to be less secretive when I can no longer tell the taxman that my hobby is costing me more than I earn. All those lovely tax deductions like book tours, business development, office supplies, office rent and miscellaneous expenses might outstrip ebook revenue and have a beneficial effect on your tax return. My problem is all those expenses wouldn`t add up to an extra coffee in my tax return.

I'm on roll!! Smash has put ....wait for it...drum roll please, 83 cents in my paypal account. At that rate, by 2025 I'll be able to buy a bottle of cheap whiskey. Bring it on.

Hmm! Out for a night out at my local pub, chatting away with a mate of mine, who tells me he has bought a couple of ebooks of mine via Amazon.UK. Both with prices on, one a box. And yet nothing is showing on my reports. I've no reason not to believe my friend, so why no money for me??? Hard enough to make a $ as it is, without it being passed on to the writer. I haven't followed up on it yet but I will. Anyone else had a similar experience?

Apple doesn't seem to report sales right away...Takes a few days before an Apple sales shows up on my graph. They don't report the financials of the sale 'till the end of the month, and they they don't cough up for some time after that. Still, I can't complain because Apple has been my strongest market...

Think of the extra interest income, even if interest only 0.5%, if millions of dollars are held 3 days - 5 on weekends - before reporting sale to author.
Heck, Amazon may hold the funds in its Accounts Receivable account awaiting confirmation of payment to them. This could take many days epending upon how many countries and banks these funds have to flow through. In the meantime another Amazon company in some almost tax free zone takes those AR's for X dollar discount then sells them to banks/institutions or uses the funds to purchase overnight bank rate tranches.
If you were Amazon and could earn almost free revenue stalling paying a supplier, would you stall?

Still no sight of the 2 books bought by my pal. However, some keen soul in the U K has bought number 6 of the Craggy series. Coulda saved a pound or two by buying the box set, but I'm not complaining. I still find it quite mad that people getting into Craggy become lost in it. The old story teller has celebrated his 100th birthday in that book and still gets to be a main character. Goes to show people will read anything these days.

Well, I suppose I did sell a couple of books today but I'm hardly a threat to the literary world. Yep, I sold bloody Craggy. The books my pal bought still not showing up. Not to worry. I'm still pushing paint around at the moment. I know why. I need to make up a few oddball names for my new book. I have Lance Boyle, Polly Darton. All suggestions greatly appreciated. I'm tempted to borrow some from the Craggy books, like Freddie Morcurry, etc. Come on, people. Names please.

Hoping to give Gary a run for his money (literally) - just released my first 'sequel'. Very exciting. Now we'll see if all that advice about 'make the first one free' yada-yada pays off. I did that - hundreds and hundreds of downloads - handful of feedback. Now Despair Part Deux is in the vetting pipelines. Watch ur pocketbook Gary... Just saying....

Trust me. It wouldn't take much to do a lot better than me. I'm trying to make Dusty Miller 1 free again. I've just done the "tell us of a lower price..." thing again. Such a pain this silly game we must play with Zon. The old adage of making first in series free is no sure fire way to success now as it was. Things have changed and what worked well once no longer applies and don't ask me what would work, I haven't a clue. On balance, #1 free is still probably worth doing, just. Nothing ventured...!
