Hi. Introducing Dixon "Craggy" Cragg.
Not your typical space hero. He is eighty four and has been a freighter captain on the Mars / Earth Moon run for ...ever. But, top brass thinks he should take early retirement, which scares the heck out of him.

This reviewer on amazon tells it better than I do, so...
Craggy is one of the last of the old generation freighter pilots on the Moon to Mars run. His is also the last of the stick and throttle tactile control equipped freighters. Things are changing, computer control, the pass your hands and fingers above the sensors, Advanced non tactile flight systems. Everyone knows you can't teach an old dog new tricks! Time for early retirement and while 80 may be the new middle age, the new space colonization really is a young person's game. On this, his last Moon-Mars-Moon run, a check ride for pilot trainee, Fawn Dillow there are a few problems, few but potentially costly. Craggy's on it,at one with his ship, straight forward almost usual, calm as if routine even if not. While it looks like early retirement anyway and hopefully a job as a sanitation engineer on the Moon things do happen.Of course, Craggy,s real fear is having to return to Earth. Earth almost dead, no resources, little food and on the brink of another all out hydrogen war, sure to end everything and everyone. With 60 or 70 years ahead of him even retired a job, any job is critical if he wants to stay off earth. His last cargo of Masrsillium is to be sent to Earth. The Moons first robotic ship, Big Bird is Earth bound, when the Moon learns, the West will weaponize the material and launch against the East while retaining Big Bird, never intending for the multi billion dollarship to return or sending the payment, of very necessary steel conversion an processing plant. Fortunately Craggy's still on the Moon, granted fixing toilets be he's there, ready and willing, when they need him most. And so it goes, they're finding that the seat of your pants, fix it on the fly, self deprecating Craggy is the GoTo guy. And once again...
What a well written fun read with absolutely wonderful characters, back drops and action. It has an honest, but almost tall tale feel about it, more like where the tall tales come from feeling. Great storytelling great fun, well worth the time.
This is a full length novel. Cheers. Gary
