I have been neck deep in marketing and promotion activities and research.
I have to thank Ted for his Free eCookbook idea. I created a free cookbook and I am having a ball writing about it, talking about it and studying cookbooks and recipes in general. I am working on another cookbook for publication by the end of 2014.
My author blog is fairly new -- Articles with highest page views Frugal Grocery Shopping in Mexico -- 5
Published works -- 15
1/6/13 total page views 132 I knew frugality would be popular and the stats appear to bear that out.
SW
purchases/downloads/samples
Gina's Dream -- 6/39/1 -- RKFNC --Free -- 0/66/5
-- Offering a free cookbook really worked. Glad to see people find it interesting enough to download it.
Amazon
as of 1/10/13 sold 1 book
Believe it or not, selling one book on Amazon is amazing to me. It was probably a friend or family member. The whole idea of publishing a cookbook has become a topic of conversation among various family members and friends. So maybe there is a family cookbook in the future.
Latest trend in cooking -- Mug cakes, mug desserts.....and more mug stuff.

It might also be an idea to post links to your free ebook on sites that actively collect free ebooks. At least, it was useful to me. Some of the people who downloaded my freebie ended up downloading my non-free books too.
I don't really know English examples but I think manybooks.net comes close to it.

Ok, anyone have any insights into this?
Looking at my Google Blog stats: the most traffic comes from Malaysia through Foxfire, Windows users. Now, I have heard that a majority of hackers come from Nigeria and that lots of "support" services have been moved to India. What is it with Malaysia?

China then the United States are the top two countries for hackers according to this article earlier this year. Nigeria wasn't on the list of the top 10, and is probably not in the top 20. The countries originating the most spam are the United States at number one and China number at two according to this article.

Here we go again, now I am getting high traffic counts from Russia on my blog. Something's up. I don't know how to block these incursions, they are probably just using my website as a gateway to other sites.

For Wordpress site protection I recommend the Wordfence plugin. www.wordfence.com/I've used it from the start on my friends knitting web site.

Good piece of advice, Ted. I'll look into it. Is that for both WP.org and .com sites?

wp.org. Here is the Wordfence plugin link on wordpress.org: wordpress.org/plugins/search/wordfence/Wordpress owners with their own self-hosted wordpress site may use the Plugin system on their site to Install Wordfence.
