I'm checking the EPUB version of a newly published book as Smashwords recommends. I'm using Adobe Digital PC reader. Everything looks pretty good except that the chapter numbers and headings have changes in the capitalization.
Some words "chapter" begin with capital C, some with lower case. Some headers look correct (with capital and lower case letters) but others are all lower case (no capitalization) like this: (title of chapter with no capitals anywhere) or initial capital only like this: (Title of chapter with words that should be capitalized but aren't).
I went back and checked my Word doc, and everything looked correct. I used Word Styles to format. I downloaded the PDF from Smashwords and it looks fine.
Does EPUB do this wierd stuff? Or is it the reader one uses?
Thanks, Marie

Hi, Marie. Indeed it sounds strange, especially if you used the same style for the chapters. I, for one, used no headers. I just modified the normal word style to fit for Meatgrinder requirements, then I modified it again to create a different style for my chapter titles. I didn't even used center. You may want to redo the style for the chapter and see how that works out. Sorry I can't be more of help. Hope you fix the issue.

If you use Firefox, try downloading the "e-pub reader 1.4.2.1" add-on through the tools menu, and inspect the epub that way. Azardi is also a good epub reader. If you have an ipad, throw the epub on to that. Don't rely on Digital Editions alone. Julie

Is there such a thing as a 'standard' epub reader? I've tried ADE, a Nook, Nook Reader on Android, the Calibre program,Moon ReaderPro and UB Reader. The same book looks different on each.

I've been asking myself the same question and I've come to believe there isn't one. But I'd be glad to be told differently.
