The Formatting rules tell you to turn off Auto Format and Auto Correct, which I assume means uncheck all the boxes on both pages. However... won't this remove all of those 'globally' (from all documents)? I need them most desperately for everything else I do, and am terrified that I will lose all the options I have been building on for years! Everything else of the formatting looks possible, but this one has me beaten. I've searched for the answer everywhere I can think of. Help please!

When set mine up, there is a box that says this document or default.

Thank you David, my program is Word 2007 and here are my choices - Word Options/Proofing/Auto Correct Options/ and then choice of tabs - Auto Correct, Format, etc. On the Proofing page at the very bottom - Exceptions for: and there's a field to choose current document or all docs. and two check boxes for Hide spelling errors in this document only, and ditto Hide grammar... etc. That just doesn't sound as if it belongs to the Auto options at the top of Proofing.

Stoically experimented - didn't work. Reconsidering getting someone to format my story for me when I'm ready. Don't seem able to get the grey matter wrapped around this one. Christine

Christine, open your document containing your soon-to-be published book, make changes to Auto Format and AutoCorrect, check field for current document (as Dave suggested for 'current document', whatever its name is will or should appear in dropdown list), save document.

It's 2.40am in Australia right now and I've been to bed and slept a few hours and up again with the problem bugging me - now hubby and I combined brainpower(?), worked through the steps, and have overcome this problem when I experimented and found I only had to change the front tab of AutoCorrect (not each tab as I had thought)and it only applied to the one document. Now I can go back to sleep! Thank you most sincerely. Christine
