My document converted just fine except I have discovered random font size changes in adjacent paragraphs with the same NORMAL style. This makes no sense. Everything about those paragraphs in the document is identical. I've noticed this in some commercial ebooks. Does anyone have a clue? So far I've only checked the ePub file. I did have the same problem with 2epub. I began with Bookman Old Style and changed to Times New Roman. That did not help. It converts perfectly in Calibre.

Word sometimes does weird 'stuff', but it could be formatting somewhere is different than your NORMAL style. Try highlighting both adjacent paragraphs to confirm no space between isn't NORMAL. If okay, then... First, make a copy of your troublesome document then select all text and set it to your NORMAL style. Check multiple sections of your work to ensure NORMAL style everywhere by highlighting blocks of text. Then create any special formatting like Headers, Bold, Italic, etc. Once your copy is complete and you're satisfied with how it converts in Calibre, upload it to Smashwords and see if your font problem exists. If problem still exists then do the Nuclear method as Mark explains in the Style Guide.

I discovered a similar problem in my ms after converting to epub in Calibre to check it. I even ran it through the test epub site and it came back as OK, but it isn't. I debated trying to copy/paste one section with the problem to new document and just try to fix that, but if that doens't work I have just wasted more time. SO, I guess it's Nuke and do it all again.
Thanks for all the information available on this forum! I appreciate having a resource of other people in similar situations with whom I can confer.
