Hello all,
I am attempting to assemble an ebook that will necessarily include some photos. My book currently resides on the web in html format, and some of these photos are 1000px wide by 4000px long. I do understand these will all have to be resized, but this is an instructional ebook, and the photos are necessary for it to be worth doing in the first place. Each article will comprise what a single web page holds now - a photo and a few paragraphs of detailed explanation. My questions are, what is the maximum width I can use for a photo? And do I have to retain the default Word page breaks, or can I have a break after each article? Any assistance is appreciated!

Hey Cristian I once formatted a childrens story book with lots of illustrations, but it only went to Amazon, so I can't say whether it would have satisfied the meatgrinder. I made sure that none of the images were more than 400 px wide @ 96dpi resolution. Images were resized before inserting into Word. I always incorporate page breaks into a style. Have you looked at Smashwords style guide Step 13 for assistance? There is a 5mb file size upload limit for Word files. Can you create your own epub and upload that way? Atlantis Word Processor will save as epub, it costs about thirty dollars and is a lot like Word used to be. I don't know what the maximum epub file size is though. Julie.

Hi Julie,
Thanks for the reply. I did check out the guide. Apparently I will have to just place smaller images in the book, and somehow have a link to the much larger photos which the reader can access when reading the book on a larger screen. I think I'm just going to have someone do all this for me as it doesn't appear to be worth the hassle to learn!
