Are there no forums available to reach out to readers on Smashwords, or have I just overlooked them? Thanks.

This forum has a members e-book section where you may promote your book. Click back to HOME and you should see it if you scroll down. I promote there because even though it is in our forum, I believe it is readable by anyone searching the cloud. I think there are places like Goodreads that you can join and promote your book.

Are there no forums available to reach out to readers on Smashwords, or have I just overlooked them? Thanks. I'm not aware of any on Smashwords itself. That is one of the reasons I started the Smashwords Forum. The forum upgrade coming later this month will have a Share function that will allow members to Share a post on Twitter and Facebook. A Smashwords Forum member may Reply to a Thread he/she started in the Members Ebooks to promote that ebook, and in that Reply state that this is where purchasers of the ebook may post questions or discuss the ebook. The Smashwords Forum member may then use that Thread link to seek contact with purchasers. This will be much easier when our forum is upgraded to V5 and the Share function becomes available.

I'm already active on Goodreads, Shelfari, Amazon forums, Authors Den, Book Barista, Mobile Read and Book Blogs. But despite very good reviews, I've noticed a slump in sales since leaving Amazon Select. The Share function won't help me as I'm not going to open a Facebook or Twitter account for safety reasons. I was hoping that readers would be invited to the Smashwords forums in a big way--and there would be specific forums we could market to reach more readers. I will try the eBooks section you mentioned. Thanks for your responses.

With Amazon buying up places like Shelfari and Goodreads, they are not so much getting a more meaningful volume of reviews, they are establishing the foundation for a new step in growing market reach. Smashwords is going to have to think about it. Extrapolate the pattern over the next 18 months, double for business timing and see the issue. In a sense Smashwords is leaving a lot more to the authors, in terms of platform development. Which makes sense, but there comes a point where Smashwords becomes too much an exposure niche, so to speak.
