Hi All,
This is probably a daft question, but can anyone let me know what time zone Smashwords "lives" in?
I have a coupon for one of my books that expires today (31 Aug). My local time (UK) is 7 hours later than the time displayed at the top of these boards, so does that mean the coupon expires for me and my fellow Brits at 7am on September 1st (our time) or does Smashwords use the users local time to determine expiry of the coupon?
Thanks in advance

I can't answer your question. However, regarding the time at the top of the forum page, keep in mind that this forum is not affiliated with the smashwords publishing site in any way - so the time at the top of the forum page has NOTHING to do with what time it is at smashwords.com. Of course, it is possible that the forum servers and the smashwords.com servers could be in the same time zone, but that would be purely by chance.

I would think coupons expire on the U.S. date as it is a U.S. company.

James - Please excuse Ted, while he handles almost everything else regarding Smashwords quite well, he's Canadian and as you probably know they have a problem up there with daylight so his oversight on your timezone question is understandable. Smashwords server appears to be on West Coast time zone (this according to the Sales and Payment Report "generated" time). PS This forum seems to be working off a time zone one beyond west coast time ( ). I guess I'm time challenged myself. Hmmm.

OK, so it was a caffeine-deprived 7am post and at that time of day I'm lucky to see the keyboard.
Smashwords server(s) are located in San Antonio, Texas, and hosted by Slicehost. The Smashwords office is located in Los Gatos, California. Time and date on a server is set by the administrator of that server (Smashwords in this instance) and may be set for any time zone.
This forum is hosted by Proboards, headquartered in Lake Forest, California. Their servers are located in Dallas, Texas, on ThePlanet servers. The time zone I set for this forum is GMT-8 Pacific.
As I write this post my computer clock, TV clock, microwave clock, coffee maker clock, and pocket watch all indicate 10: 56AM give or take a minute.

I seem to remember that it is clear when you generate the coupon what time it expires and the timezone.

Many thanks for the responses guys, much appreciated.
aristotle is quite correct that it does specify that "Expirations are on a California calendar of GMT -08:00." when you generate the coupon.
I never noticed it when I was generating mine, and then couldn't find anything except the date in coupon manager. Following aristotle's post I'veclicked to generate a new coupon and there it was.
Thanks again for the help.
