I have an ebook that will need to have several tables. I understand that the SW style guide doesn't include using tables within Word - but does anyone have any suggestions on work arounds that would allow a table to be inserted?
I'm thinking of something along the lines of saving the table as a jpeg and then treating it like a picture and just inserting it? Would that work? I wanted to see if anyone has any ideas before I put a lot of work into recreating the tables in Word and then saving them as pictures in case that isn't a good option.
Thanks! Lily

Inserting the tables as images would work, but it would mean that the reader won't be able re-size the text in the table or select the text. I'd use PNG for the image format rather than JPEG, though - PNG is more suitable for that type of image. I'm pretty sure that tables won't survive the conversion process from Word to the various formats, though, so there is no perfect answer

Thanks Russell. I am looking into possibly uploading the tables to Google Docs and just using a public link for the ebook. That might work and not suffer in the conversion - unless I can figure out a way to upload the tables to my blog and link there.

I would have used tables in one of my books, and re-worked the way that the information was presented, so that tables weren't used.
Bear in mind that if you host the tables on the internet and link to them, some people won't be able to access them from whatever device they read your book on. It's up to you whether or not that's an issue.

Too bad, though - they are useful. Maybe I'll give saving them as PNG files a try. Worst that will happen is that they won't upload properly and I'll just need to find another way to use the information in them. Thanks!
