But isn't Amazon on a fishing expedition? If someone lodges a complaint about a fake review, does Amazon then consider that all other reviews possible fakes? Are there no privacy questions regarding fishing for proof of a crime by using corporate data in such a manner?

Ahpellet: none of your bullet points apply. I'm in Australia and from what I can remember of the 4 reviews content, they were from USA readers - a couple had issues with Oz lingo and one Googled for a 'translation'. But they were all strangers to me. The two remaining reviews are written by Australians, one I know for sure is an avid fan, and the other writes business books. Ted: This is from the first KDP response: Subject: Your Amazon.com Communities Inquiry "Hello Julie, It's come to our attention that you, or people related to you, have submitted reviews for the following titles: "The Site: Only The Dead Keep Secrets" This is why four of the reviews for this book have been removed. Our posted Guidelines prohibit authors from submitting reviews for books they publish, write or manufacture. As a result, we've removed the reviews for these titles. Any further violations of our posted Guidelines may result in the removal of your title from our website as well as your review posting privileges." I was very alarmed at the last sentence (removal of title) so responded, saying I hadn't reviewed The Site, nor had any relatives. A day later I received the bulletpointed response mentioned in my previous post. So yes it is scary, and worse, there is NOTHING I can do about it. Sometimes I wish Amazon would ditch the review system and just leave a star guide from 1-5 like Goodreads.

I agree Amazon should ditch the reviews. I'm on Linkedin and it has been inundated with KDP authors wanted to swap reviews, asking for reviews, posting multiple requests for a review of the same ebook, etc, etc.
It's getting to the point where reviews are becoming meaningless on Amazon because there is so much swapping of reviews between authors, buying of reviews, meaningless reviews by Linkedin members just trying to help out some other author.
But I can understand it when you look at the prices some of these mutli-request for review kindle authors are asking. The prices are so out of line with reality that even with 50 5-star reviews they'll be unlikely to earn much in this economy.

The obvious one is linked address in your address book, if you've drop-shipped.

Was unable to find where to start a new thread on here, so decided my current problem is similar except it is on itunes. I just noticed that I've lost at least three reviews. Two on one book and one on another. The latter was a very recent review. But most of all I had over hundred ratings on two books and those ratings are all down to like 11 or 12 now. Strange goings on. Anyone else loose any reviews or ratings on apple?

I haven't noticed anything similar, but I'm sure that others will report their experiences.

Well it seems my reviews and ratings have been returned to Apple, I think one review is still missing though. I wrote to customer service on Smashwords but hadn't received a reply yet. Seems it fixed itself. Odd. Now the only thing I'm missing is the star rating on one book at Barnes and Noble. Smashwords didn't seem to have an answer how to fix that so I wrote directly to Barnes and Noble. After some time I received a reply saying their review thing was messed up and they (who ever answered the e mail) would pass my query along to the review department. So now another wait on that one. Writers have to have patience that's for sure.

This is the strangest thing. Now those reviews and ratings have disappeared again on Apple. I have no idea what is going on.
