Ted must have seen our discussion on the missing button, because I just logged in and it is back. Thanks Ted. :-) Gary, I hope the missing create threads button has reappeared for you.

Hi, Chris. I had probably just been musing with a glass of something at the time. As I endeavor to motivate my writing hand again, I was reflecting on some obscure novella I'd penned a few years ago wondering if it was worth resurrecting for an update and rewrite. The idea behind it was an interesting one and a pity to let it languish unloved and unread. Years on I've more writing experience under my belt to perhaps make more of the story. My post was to be, do we put these old chestnuts into the dungeons of our minds or should we shake them into, hopefully, a more appreciated offering? I have a couple like that, Gary. And every time I feel like it's time to dredge one up, a fresh idea pops up and takes control. However, a couple of the ones I have published were exactly that. I came across a front & back handwritten page a few years back in some rubbish I was about to put in the bin, and had a stone-chill holy crap moment ... it was the first chapter of what I would go on to complete and publish as The Valley of Despair, which I believe you may have read. Another that I thought I had lost to the ages I discovered a digital copy of, and published as On a Winter's Eve ... another close call! I've gotten better at keeping up with fragments and ideas. I have one, a sword and planet, that I truly hope I revisit one day. I've tinkered on it off and on for probably 25 years or more and just keep setting it aside. Partly because life interfered, partly laziness, and partly because I started it before the writing bug really bit me. Now that it has, I want to finish it. I'm somewhat of a completest, whether it's home projects, painting, collecting books, etc, so I want to see it done. I say drag that thing out into the light of day and give it a go.

Cheers, Chris. I'll shake that creative tree one day. At the moment I'm working on two paintings and I still have Drifta's Quest 2 to crack on with. Lock down gives us the chance to do these things.

I understand. I have two paintings I'm doing that were commissioned. I became stuck for awhile on exactly what kind of sky I wanted to go with on the first one I tackled. Finally made it past that, and went on to complete the background. Still to do is the main focus -- an ugly mutant. It wasn't my choice, or I'd of picked something cooler looking. But at least I do get to go hog wild with the rest of it. And I am.

Not only in lockdown but still locked out of new threads. Nevertheless, I can still annoy the good folk on here. It will take my mind away from waiting for my hair clippers from the mighty Zon arriving Saturday for a much needed trim. What can I say? Every day is an adventure.
I was just musing as I look about my tiny home where navigating around tonnes of paintings, one day I'll be discovered buried underneath it. That fitting demise would no doubt have my paintings selling for many thousands. I'm tempted to cut off an ear in the meantime but some joker beat me to that ploy. But that's ok. Nice to think that once I'm exhumed from the paintings, years from now people will be debating on what scale of crap my stuff belongs. And more relevant, all our ebooks will be floating about ciberspace until the end of time. A sobering thought.
I have debated at times with the lecturers that art should sometimes be just FUN!!!. It really doesn't have to be Earth shattering or deep and meaningful all the time. I'm just finishing off a painting of a beautiful Indian woman in a sari. It's nice, nothing more. Now I'm considering a tribute to George Floyd. Done right that can be a significant work and make people stop and think. Another blank canvas beckons and like my ebooks, there's a story to tell. Does that legacy you're leaving behind ever influence your writing?

Not me. :-)
I create because I love to and enjoy it, whether it is painting, drawing cartoons, writing stories, recovering chairs, sewing clothes, etc.
Like my fairy wings, I just enjoyed it. Oh, Gary, did you see the link to the fairy wings on the previous page (9) that you asked to see?
And I agree, uni takes all the fun out of creating stuff, even writing code for computer programs. I think sometimes they make all that "deep" stuff up to justify their teaching positions. :-)

Found this on youtube. A must watch That's pretty darn awesome. I watch stuff like that all the time. One of my favorites is this young lad playing all of the instruments from Metallica's instrumental -- Orion. He uses the exact same instruments the band used on the original recording. Just brilliant.

That boy is as good as the little girl. I guess you can sum it up as "study hard" and "practice". :-)

I agree both kids are good, but don't forget the girl is just six!!! You should see the vid where shes's giving advice on learning to play guitar. I'm sure she's a reincarnation.

Gary, I can still see the "Create Thread" button so I can create a new thread for you if you wish. Just tell me the topic name first. :-)

I'm probably feeling a bit precious but I can't help but feel like a toddler outside on the naughty step. For now I'll just put the odd comment on existing threads. Busy doing a 'George Floyd' tribute painting at the moment, so that'll take my mind off things.
