Of course, I meant 'no attention.' Geez, write much?

I feel the same way when I read others work. Because they're not writing another zombie story or vampire tale, no one wants to read them.

I think the really sad thing is those really great writers who do take time with editing etc and still get know attention. People seem to think writing and being successful at it is some kind of magical thing. You need skill and craft from which to showcase a good story. And you need talent and dedication. And then there is luck and having the right fit for whatever is hot at the moment. People take away the 'overnight sensation' stories, not the ones where people slogged year after year, rejection after rejection, to perfect their craft. Back to editing, Steven King is a perfect example of a guy with great stories who really need an editor! And he's also an example of someone who plugged away at it for years, while holding down a full-time job. Geez, don't know where these long posts are coming from! Maybe because I have just recently had a knock back?
You can say the same thing about music, acting and art, there are many with incredible talents in the world that do not get the recognition we think they deserve which is one reason I support community theater, local artists and musicians and self-published authors :-)
What continues to floor me is the fact so many works of art made by people who struggled in poverty but their work is sold and resold for incredible amounts of $.
But, you mentioned Steven King who worked full-time for years while he continued to write his stories before he was "discovered." I found it impossible to work on my novels while I worked, so I give a great deal of credit to those who can do it. Barbara Neely is another author who worked full-time while she worked on her novels in her "spare time."
Oh, hmmm, "had a knock back", meaning you had a setback? Hope things improve for you :-)

I'm with you. I could not hold down a 9-5 job anyway. There would not be anything left for the writing. So I greatly admire the dedication of people who do.
Geez, sometime I come out with British slang and I don't even realize it! Been here too long! Knockback in terms of a rejection for a piece of fiction. My professional writing going great, a chapter and a paper, but no recognition for the fiction at the moment. Not a setback as I am still in the same place, and I need to show more dedication with my fiction.
