Wow, Chris thanks for all your ideas. You have inspired me to try GIMP again!!
You are very creative.
Chris,
I found GIMP but when I did a web search I found that it often carries malware. Plus, my mac refused to load it. I could bypass the mac's security but choose not to.
I have had problems with viruses and malware, so I am leery.
I did make a few changes to the cover and used a different process. While it still has lots of white space, it does look better. Thanks.
Since this book has been published, I will spend time this year beefing up my publishing software options. It is in some ways unfortunate that writing, whether it be a blog or a book, is so dependent on images. It feels like ideas no longer capture people's attention. We've gone back to cave paintings! So, if you are looking to publish, some knowledge of graphical software is a must.

I've used GIMP for years and never had any malware, but then I'm running on a PC. I've also used Malwarebytes for PC for years without any problems. The free version works fine for me.
You could download Malwarebytes for Mac then run it before downloading GIMP and install it, then run Malwarebytes for Mac once more to make sure there is no malware. Here is the link for Malwarebytes for Mac: www.malwarebytes.com/mac/

That said, I've had the same version installed for a while now (2.8.16). The latest version is 2.10.8, so I'm not up to date. It's possible their site was 'hacked' at some point since I last downloaded. I did a quick search for "GIMP,Malware", and found forums where a guy's machine got aids - but it was from a GIMP tutorial site - not the GIMP download site. Are you certain you were on the GIMP.org site, and not some other download site?

Thanks, Ted, I do rely on advice from SWFers.
I have malwarebytes. I also have McAfee security SW and spent 2 hours this morning trying to fix an email issue with them :-)
Since, I have had two email accounts hacked and my norton security SW hacked, I am overly cautious and feel I am still vulnerable in some fashion.
Unfortunately, the windows PC I bought last year, was a PC from hell. A friend suggested it was a gamer's pc not a "writer's" pc because of the way it behaved :-) I use my sister's windows pc and it's fine but mine did not even approach a similar functionality.
And let's not talk about Google/Gmail.
But, I am Apple happy now, my mac works, my minipad works and I just got a new cellphone (actually 2) because my previous cellphone ZTE was also from He double hockey sticks. I had to get a new ISP, too. So, I am happy, functioning and productive!!!!!
I will do a review of my publishing software this year.
At the moment, I have no book in the works, so I don't feel any pressure to get professional or free software to help make a better book. But, for my next book, I want to do a better job on many levels.
Thanks for the advice, keep it coming :-)

I will check that later, thanks for the tip. When I downloaded the GIMP, I found I had downloaded it earlier. I will check the versions to see if I have the older one that may be ok.

I should keep a log of all the software I have had to learn and relearn, and the new software I need to learn when I want to publish a book. Actually, I do keep notes about formatting the books I publish but my notes need to be fuller and more complete.
Thanks

I've run Avast anti-virus for many years without a problem. It's free for Mac www.avast.com/en-ca/free-mac-security I've friends using either McAfee or Norton and had nothing but problems with those anti-virus programs. I usually look for free open-source programs which can be an alternative to a fee based product. One site to check for alternative software is alternativeto.net/

Update: This eBook has been updated. If you bought the previous version, I think you can download the current version.
This was my first Spanish book to produce and my friend's first book to publish.
It is my fault the eBook needed changes. While I did suggest that my friend have her book read by others since I did not speak Spanish. I don't think she did. But, she found a pharmacy near her that would display and sell her book. The pharmacist took a look at the book and submitted four pages of changes :-) He did a good job and I am appreciative.
