Hola Idiot....
I like your idea.
I was just getting ready to write a post suggesting that those SWF authors who want to can promote SWF author's works on their websites/blogs in time for the holidays.
As a general rule, I feature one Smashwords/SWF author's work on my website each month.
If you're going to do that, sign up as an affiliate on SW. When you feature an author, add your affiliate tag to the end of the URL...even if it's a free book. When someone clicks on the link, SW drops a cookie into their computer that sits there for 2 days. If they visit the site any time within the two days and buy something, even if it's not the book/author you featured, you get a commission unless the author turned off commissions for the particular book.
For authors that see a problem with this, you might want to go into the affiliate manager and turn off the referral so you don't get hit with a surprise referral fee every once in a while...
I am an affiliate. Haven't looked at my dashboard in awhile. It was interesting. People have actually clicked on some of my links and I sold some of my own books. I sell roughly 1-6 books a year. Barely pocket change but I am not complaining.
It was hard to find a book among the books listed in the Affiliate list, so I did not select one. I'll get back to that later :-) Thanks for the suggestion.

1-6 books? That would be a stampede for me! Still I can't complain either as I have not been doing any promotion.
Good to see you posting, Ria.

New book Drifta's Quest is now out there all over the place, even having sold 1 on Zon for $ Even got a nice 5 star review from Anna on smash.
Review by: Anna Scott Graham on Dec. 5, 2018 :
So glad to read another page-turner by Gary Weston; I found myself unable to tear myself away from Drifta and his friends, as the action doesn't stop, and just when you think you know where this story is heading.... Boom, you're wondering just how it's going to end. I especially appreciated the change of pace dialogue, and that it was faithfully carried throughout the novel. An ingenious touch that exemplifies the quality of Weston's storytelling. Hoping to read more of Drifta in the near future, and again, so pleased to have another chance to enjoy Weston's brand of humor and adventure.
(review of free book)
Cheered me up having had a load of rough stuff going on at the moment, not least no internet for over 2 weeks. Resolved now. Drifta part 2 going nicely with new ideas coming from all directions so my Christmas will be me getting into the zone and writing. At least with fiction I can bend it to my will whereas real life seems to be under everyones control other than mine.

Yay! Just had an email from paypal that I have had an amazing 78 cents just gone in from my smash account. I know I shouldn't boast about such an extravagant lifestyle, but I do it only as an inspiration to all. Now I'm not saying all indies can earn such wealth from mere writing, but if you work really hard, who knows. I say go for it. Perhaps you will crack the one dollar ceiling. I've already ordered my all electric rolls royce and just need a few more of those 78c to make the final payment. Dare to dream, people. Dare to dream.

Oh, Idiot. This is no reflection on your original intentions, which are well founded I'm sure. Having had a quick look at your site I wish you well with it. I've no woes with D2D. They hit the spot with me, but that's just me. My latest freebie on smash is doing ok and in the new year I'll stick the true $ value on it. My rule of thumb is one review per 300 hits. OK so far. I'm fine with how it's gone as hundreds of readers are now into my new book and a lot of my back list is getting a new lease of life on the back of it. Book 2 romping along for a mid 2019 release so happy with that.

I thought you left only a couple of duds on Smashwords or some freebies. But don't fret, if memory serves me right you have to have US10$ or more in paypal before they transact with you. So hang in there with paypal until you reach their minimum level of dollars before you can transfer funds from your paypal wallet to your bank. Dream of those US dollars converting to your currency and think of all that free money. Whooopeeee!!

Ouch, Ted, Duds??? It wasn't like that. I had the longest running thread on here, close to 5,000 posts on my Kindle exclusive journey, which finally led to my split with smash as my vehicle of choice. I Left some of my freebies on smash for old times sake which still get an outing, more so at the moment. I still have huge respect for Mark Coker and his team as pioneers but for me the D2D platform just happens to be an easier ride. $$ are trickling in from D2D and smash so it keeps me in beer. I've a couple of hundred $$ sitting in paypal at the moment and when time is right I'll collect. In the meantime I'll just keep churning out my brand of rubbish 'cus I like it, in the hope others will share my p o v. I live in hope.

I like what Corker is trying to do, but I feel like the operation is very limited in "ideas." Their idea of Marketing hasn't branched beyond "offer first story in series free/box sets/preorders." As more and more people publish, authors have to get more and more creative with their marketing to stand out. That also means if SW wants to gain/keep a chunk of the ebook market, they too have to evolve their thinking or Amazon will eventually swallow them up.

I read that - wouldn't just giving another your login credentials do the same thing?

Dunno mate. As somebody not even owning one of those new fangled smart phone thingies, my knowledge is lodged somewhere back in 1969. I'm sure others more savvy will let us know. At the moment I'm a bit busy on the telegraph organizing having some work done on my horseless carriage. Need the wicks changing in the rear lights. Never ending for we go getters, hey?
