Boy, that sounds complicated. What is DAZ? We used to have a washing powder called DAZ. I did try GIMP a few years ago, but found it clunky and not user friendly. I suppose it could have improved a lot now. I have a freebie called photoscape which does quite a lot and many of my covers are created this way. Being free it has its limits but I find easy to use. I have not tried photoshop yet. I don't mind spending some $$ for a really good software (within reason).

Gary, DAZ creates 3D figures and dresses them. Can put them in a movie, take a snapshot of certain poses, move lights/cameras to other angles, etc www.daz3d.com/Stick to photoscape if you are familiar with it. You can play around on GIMP following tutorials, or try to replicate what you do on photoscape on GIMP.

I can't go with either DJ or Ria in saying art is in the eye of the beholder. I am a bit of a medievalist in my opinion: art is about elevation, of the mind and spirit. It should take you out of your environment, circumstances and show you something different. Not that I can't appreciate other types of entertainment, other forms of expression.
I use Gimp and agree it is kind of clunky. But then I have not really applied myself to it.

While I am aware of all that CG stuff going on, as an author/publisher, I am still in Word with photos or scanned images :-)

Ria, I write my stories in Word. I sometimes use Dramatica to plot and create characters, but always write stories in Word.
I read the DAZ3D and Blender manuals to get the hang of it. I followed the blender steps to build the lighthouse, and put the light inside. That was fun. :-)
I wish I had the money to buy Poser, Terragen by Planetside software, and Vue d'Esprit by e-on Software. And Corel Bryce as well. I would be too busy playing with the software creating images to bother writing stories any more. :-) Lucky I can't afford them. :-)

Poser, Terragen by Planetside software, and Vue d'Esprit by e-on Software. I'd never heard of these, so good to know. I'll check them out.
Is anyone else getting this blue PB "can we talk" banner popping up when visiting this forum?? I've not clicked on it 'cus I'm always dubious of things popping up uncalled for.

Still working on fixing problems. I have actually gone back to paper, pen and pencil because even my previous "smart" phone dropped task list, contacts and more. So, to heck with alot of this technology, at least for me, I can't afford to keep up or maintain what I have. Perhaps the biggest disappointment is Apple. They have stopped maintaining their older devices. I mean I still have the classic iPod (actually not sure what my device is called) but most of the programs no longer work because Apple stopped upgrading or maintaining the device. Have an older iPad, same problems. Not to mention my macs. I had to get a new HP pc in order to function. I hope, wish, pray this is my last pc or I go back to paper totally and use a CiberCafe pc to publish :-)

Oh yeah, and it takes up a chunk of screen space. I don't click much of anything these days, too much malware out there.

Ria, yes, malware is a problem. So is upgrading operating systems so that they can not handle older programs that are used frequently, so costs more to upgrade them as well. I do spend money running security. Worth it in saving lost time while reinstalling everything after a malware hit.
I refuse to upgrade my Microsoft operating systems any more! Next breakdown will see me installing Ubuntu OS and only using free software to get anything done, unless I already own purchased software. :-)
And I back up all docs every week or two to an external hard drive. Note to myself: Must do backup again, now I published Trackers! :-)

Gary, I can see the photobucket display but have not clicked on it. And I have no Idea what it is about. OK, I googled it. :-) "Please Update Your Account to Enable 3rd Party Hosting July 1, 2017 11:55 AM Subscribe Photobucket rolled out a new update to its TOS on June 26th with just a small, innocuous blog post as an announcement. Users have been finding out about it as their embedded images on other sites have turned into placeholders telling them to update their accounts, and as Photobucket has rolled out email notifications telling them that if they want to keep embedding images, they have to pay $399/year. " Read the rest here. www.metafilter.com/167973/Please-Update-Your-Account-to-Enable-3rd-Party-HostingI guess we do not include images in this proboards. :-)

DJ, I'd like to hear more about Dramatica. Do you find it helpful? I have to admit my head is spinning with all the software you use and know of. I would be spending far too much time learning that. Thank God for online videos!
Ria, I hear you about the malware and the upgrades and legacy software/hardware. I mean, my husband just recently forced me to part with my Blackberry Torch. Of course, I got another BB complete with keyboard, loathe touchscreen phones.
And I drive a Saab...

chelsfield, yes, I find it helpful to create the personalities of the characters. That is all. I plot scenes with pen and paper, not in the program any more, but I could and print out each scene sentence, or import the text into a word doc and go from there writing each scene. Dramatica is based on a theory, taught in uni by the creator of the theory, and made into software to use. You can read the theory and get an idea about the program here. storymind.com/free_downloads.htmOr read the manual online here storymind.com/page31.htmHappy reading! :-) I also have Movie Magic Screenwriter, but have not used it for years to write screenplays. Too busy writing novels and short stories. :-)
