I uploaded a word doc after following the style guidelines.
The epub comes out OK.
The mobi is mostly OK except when I click on a TOC link to a chapter, it opens just below the chapter heading, so the heading is not visible. I checked where the bookmarks are and they are definitely on the heading. I do not have this problem with a near identical mobi converted by kdp.
Anyone run into a similar problem and have a solution?

Best to ask Smashwords support about this one.

Yes, check with Smashwords Support for that particular problem. One the whole though, mobi format isn't going to be downloaded very much if at all on Smashwords as most Kindle owners go direct to Amazon.

I prefer to download from Smashwords. Amazon tracks suspiciously. Plus I don't want suggestions based on my choices when I'm just testing an indi book.

You have to set the bookmark at the beginning of the chapter heading, do not highlight the heading and bookmark that. For example if your heading is CHAPTER 1, Place the cursor before the "C". Then create the bookmark.
