Yes, it initially struck me as odd, the Flanders bit. But must be the common language with the Netherlands.

It's good to hear about the Philippines. I spent two years there. I love it. The next question is how to capitalize on any of this information.

The easiest suggestion is to create characters or feature settings from the target country. Make sure the depictions are true to life though, and not just a weak and failing attempt. Then again I feature Canada/Canadians and it does little for my sales up north...

I have many Polish neighbours and am wondering if one would be interested in a translation deal on one of my books. To save time, I would possibly use a freebie translation service then get a Polish person to adjust where needed. Just a thought buzzing around in my head.

But it does often lead to criticisms about stereotypes...

Gary, when I did a search for a translator for my book, I used various methods. It was my ad on Craig´s list that helped me find my translator.

My mind boggles at the cost of having 2 million words translated into Portuguese and Spanish I keep seeing this sort of figure. It's NOT true. It relates to the ebook sales of conventional print publishers and does not take account of independent publishers. Relax - ebook sales are going from strength to strength.
