Hi. I'm in the process of finishing up my recent novel, "Selling Steve Jobs' Liver: A Story of Startups, Innovation, and Connectivity in the Clouds" and have submitted it to the meatgrinder. This story takes place in a high tech milieu and I've integrated a PowerPoint preso into the narrative.
I saved the slides as individual png files and inserted them into my .doc file. There DPI is 96; size is 960 * 720 pixels per inch.
The file goes through the meatgrinder with no autovetter errors.
In the EPUB file created by the MG, the images are rather ragged looking and pixelated. I have attached a sample of the same epub slide and the mobi version. (Well, actually, I haven't as this seems to not be activated. I can send the screen shots if you want. As you'll see,the epub slide is clearly inferior in appearance. The overall formatting of the pages with these images is fine; it's the images that are the problem. When I generate a PDF off the .doc file it looks fine.
I also note my submitted cover is rather jaggy as well. The epub cover is a png file with a 72 * 72 DPI 1689 x 2229 Pixels (3.76 MPixels) (3:4).
Any insights into what's going on much appreciated!

Try saving the images from the ppt as jpegs instead of pngs.

Will give that try, though the SM guide seems to recommend .png. I'm also shrinking the file size in the document to 500 pixels wide to keep away from the right/left margins.

OK, taking it down to 500 pixels wide seems to have done the trick.
