I published an ebook for free through Smashwords (with premium distribution) several weeks ago. I've had people report the price match links to Amazon without any result just yet.
I'm not worried about any lag, I was just wondering if Amazon was consistently doing a price match now or no?

I'm not worried about any lag, I was just wondering if Amazon was consistently doing a price match now or no? I too submitted links to other stores in hopes that they would price match. Turns out that you have to send them an email (to customer support) about your plight and also include the links to the other stores - they should price match after that. Amazon staff does state that they do this at their leisure. I wish you speedy results.

Should I avoid writing them from my own account? I always wonder if they'll just decide to pull it completely in that case.

Should I avoid writing them from my own account? I always wonder if they'll just decide to pull it completely in that case. No need to be afraid of customer support. Send the email from your author account, otherwise they might not take you seriously. The direct approach is the best - you can't rely on a third party as an intermediary on this issue.

KDP or Amazon itself? And what did you include in your email? Just curious.

KDP or Amazon itself? And what did you include in your email? Just curious. To Kindle Direct Publishing. I put price-matching as subject, then told them that I used the "tell us about a lower price" link numerous times without success of getting them to price-match my novels to the other ebook vendors. I told them where my novels were free (Smashwords, Itunes etc), I told them to please look into the issue then I submitted links to the other ebook stores where my novels are free.

According to KDP, #6-Other Pricing Terms; "ii. Price Matching Determinations : If you notify us through Contact Us (by selecting the topic Pricing & Royalties – Price Matching) that you believe we have made an error in price-matching your Digital Book, we will review the issue and make best efforts to correct the error, if any, going forward as soon as practicable." kdp.amazon.com/help?topicId=A29FL26OKE7R7B

Amazon take little notice of Smashwords prices; they obviously don't see them as competitors. They take much more notice of iTunes and B&N prices. Make sure your book is in Smashword's Premium catalogue and distribute it to iTunes, B&N and Kobo.
A word of warning - Amazon take even longer to stop price matching if you change your mind.

Just wanted to update for anyone trying to do this in 2015: I sent KDP an email with my B&N, iTunes, etc. links. They took a couple of days and price matched. Free book!

I found that once price matched at amazon.com it stayed price matched. amazon.co.uk and amazon.com.ca were a different matter. Every few months they put it back to the 'standard' price and I had to get people to notify them of the lower price again. They seem to have stopped that now but it's worth keeping an eye on them.

Amazon price matching is only for North America, or it was the last time I checked Amazon Terms and Conditions a year or so ago.

It's not exclusive to Amazon.com Ted. I have a book pricematched in amazon.co.uk, Europe, amazon.com.ca and India
