I like (and absolutely abhor) the idea that it is all unknowable in the end. You could put all of the best advice into practice and still get nothing. You could do practically nothing and become an overnight sensation. In writing, it essentially takes a 'black swan' event to become successful.
And then, when you do become successful, you look back with a bit of a selectvity bias to explain your success: it was because I did 'this' (had a FB page, a video blog etc).
When really who can say what exactly made you specifically successful? When really someone else could try to replicate exactly everything you did and come up empty. It's not science....

It's not science....Exactly, it's luck. The old saying, you need money to make money is true. However, if you're lucky and someone with a lot of followers (by chance) reads your ebook and likes it and recommends it (posts about it on his channel), then you'll see a huge spike in downloads & wonder why.

Of course you can always try having the right connections at Amazon and the publicity machine of Hollywood behind you. Then you can write your first book and before it even reaches the shelves get ranked as a #1 technothriller author and be in Amazon's top 100 authors. The book isn't yet released but already has 138 customer reviews. It may be brilliant but I really think an author needs to sweat blood in book promotion rather than have it handed to them on a plate. Here's the book - www.amazon.com/gp/product/1477828494
