I just uploaded my latest book - successfully - no errors or autovetter issues. In reviewing it, I saw several minor errors that I corrected in the file and when I tried to upload it again, it failed on all formats. I noticed that the file size says 0 kb - and I'm guessing that is the problem. I'm not sure how to correct this. I've resaved my file, restarted my computer and even tried uploading from a different computer - and it still fails. I also can't make changes to the tags - no matter how many times I try, only one tag is showing. Here's the page: www.smashwords.com/books/view/155385The original version is awaiting review, and it is fine enough to pass - but I'd really like to correct those few little things and can't. The current status of Helping with Homework: A Guide for Teachers and Parents is Awaiting review submitted 2012-04-24 Any help anyone can give me is appreciated! Thanks! Lily

Lily, you are able to make changes to the description and tags or cover etc. when you click on the "Settings" link next to your work on the Dashboard.
To upload a new version, click on "upload new version".
If the file size is 0, then there is nothing in the file and therefor nothing to upload. Open your existing ebook, the corrected version, "Save-as" in MSWord 2003-07 .doc format to a new file name. (homework2.doc for example), and - if that file isn't 0 kb - upload that file to Smashwords.

Hi Ted,
This isn't my first book - I have successfully uploaded 5 previously, and I did all of the things you noted this time, too.
I believe there was some kind of glitch in the upload since even though it told me the upload had failed - the new version finally did show a little bit ago.
Haven't tried the tags again - I redid them about 5 times through the settings link and nothing took - but maybe now that the site seems to be behaving, it will work.
Funny about that file size thing - there definitely WAS a file as it is showing in the "original file" link on the book page - with the changes - which now also can be seen in the various versions. The last version that I uploaded successfully also listed 0 kb! And when I went to download the PDF version - there were two prior versions showing, even though I had gotten notification that those had failed - so something was definitely up.
Guess my question should have been - had anyone else noticed this today when uploading revisions.

I belong to an author's group, where several people have recently reported this 0 kb. This leads me to suspect it is a Smashwords problem.

I agree with elfspirit. As several people have noticed the problem then it is likely Smashwords knows about it and will fix it soon.

I am having the same problem now. Anybody know any more since the last thread about failed and 0 kb?
I've published two other books beforehand with no problems. This last one however I've nuked three times plus I put it through the epub validator and myobi pocket and Kindle and each time passed no problem.
Yet each time I upload a new version it gets as far as the pdf format and then fails Kindle and aborts from there on.
Any help would be much appreciated

Sunny88, report problem using the Smashwords Support system.
Include your statement "I've published two other books beforehand with no problems. This last one however I've nuked three times plus I put it through the epub validator and myobi pocket and Kindle and each time passed no problem.

I am having the same issue: Failed to convert due to 0KB (upload date: July/25/2012).
This is my 13th book, and I never had this converting issue before.
Could anyone share with me how your issue got resolved?
Thanks a lot!

Could anyone share with me how your issue got resolved? Thanks a lot! Hongyang Check your MSWord doc and make sure it is a .doc file and not .docx or something. I've had no problems uploading any of the 4 ebooks this past month. I saw the 0 file size when uploading, and perhaps even during some part of the conversion process, but after conversion all ebooks have passed successfully through to Premium Edition (except latest which was uploaded only 2 days ago). Failures may be due to some bug being introduced by MSWord and not just the 0 file size, as that number has not made any difference in converting my ebooks. Maybe someone else has a better explanation, but the zero file size made no difference to my uploads/conversions. It's bothersome seeing a zero there, and could lead to confusion. Contact Support and provide full details of problem. Maybe they have answers.
