There are several "when to tweet" apps available for Twitter users, some free and some fee-based.
The prevailing assumption of when it is best to tweet is: • 5PM Eastern Time is the best time to tweet. • The best tweeting frequency is 1 to 4 tweets per hour. • Saturday is the best day to share content on Facebook. • Noon Eastern Time is the best time of the day to share content on Facebook. • The best sharing frequency on Facebook is .5 posts per day.
Search using Google or other search engines "best hours to tweet" for lots of information on Twitter and Facebook.

I have to say, these are all very good tips. I just wish I could remember them throughout the day. I get to the social media whenever I can. I have to say, I am still having a tremendous amount of difficulty getting people to my Smashwords books. I still sell much more via Amazon's Kindle and Barnes & Noble's pages than I do via Smashwords.
I love Smashwords and what they are doing for us indie guys, but I can't seem to get anyone over there to buy my books.

I expect that you'll find sales at Smashwords will be much greater when they are as well known as B&N or Amazon and have as many people visiting their site regularly. I consider any sales at Smashwords as pure bonus, because people treat Smashwords just like they do Best Buy retail stores; look at the item, decide if they like it, buy it elsewhere where visitor already has an account - or can get it cheaper in the case of Best Buy.
