I have an Apple Fixed Layout epub which I need to upload to SW. I looked for info on this and could not find and I'm sure I'm not the only person who is trying to upload one of these.
I need to know if there is a procedure other then the regular instructions on how to upload this type of book?
Thx

RD, first upload your MSWord .doc file to Smashwords so it will convert to other formats. After that, upload your epub. Not all ereaders will accept/display properly a fixed-layout. I expect that will change in the coming months and years as old technology catches up/ is replaced. Validate your epub before uploading to Smashwords. Here is the link to Smashwords Direct page for more information.

Same as Ted says: - first upload a Word document and convert it to all possible formats - afterwards upload your custom epub document and overwrite the automatically generated of Smashwords Upload of the epub works in the same way as uploading a Word document. After you created your account on Smashwords you'll be able to upload a new document (via publish) or change existing books (via your dashboard). You don't necessarily have to upload a Word document too if you're just planning to distribute an epub file. But you won't be able to create other file formats like mobi from your epub file. I'm also adding the following information. Fixed Layout is a feature that is usually associated with epub3. (Though there are possibilities to make an epub2 with fixed layout.) Smashwords doesn't distribute epub3, only epub2. So before uploading your custom epub file, make sure it is an epub2 file. The quickest way to find out if your epub is epub2 or epub 3 is by running it through validator.idpf.org/. The validator will tell you if you have an epub2 or epub3 file.
